My first bike over 50cc

#1 Unread post by kronicdecay »

Just upgraded from my wildfire 50cc scooter to a 2002 kawasaki eliminator 125. Only has 1k miles on it. From reading about the bike it reccomends that in the first 1k miles it should have been broken in like only going 30 to 40 mph. Is there a way i can test this to determine if the previous owner actually did this? And if not what steps can i take at this point to ensure the life of my bike is the longest? Also what are your thoughts on this bike for being my first starter bike. The main difference im noticing is going from automatic transmition on my scooter to manual transmition (shifting is still a problem for me) any ideas?

First of all.....:happybikeday:

If you want to be sure...change the oil anyway.
As for shifting...are you planning on taking a riding course? That would help. If not, then get someone to give you some pointers...in person....on how to shift.

Have you ever driven a standard car?

Get rid of the 125 and get a Suzuki Burgman 400, It will cruise with almost anything.

that 125 would be an excellent bike to learn the shifting and such on, probably only a small step over your 50cc scooter in power. You will probably want to move up to something bigger once you get used to it, hopefully by then you will have some idea of what kind of riding you want to do and look for an appropriate bike for that.
