Today I took the Buell in for it,s 6000 mile checkup.

John was this a free service from Buell? The reason I ask is that I would've thought a man of your mechanical knowledge and ability would do all the servicing on his own.

Is it normal to get only 6,000 miles on a tire on a Buell?

Those Buells have notoriously bad stators, so it's not a surprise at all unfortunately.
As for 6K miles on a tire, that's about average with a torque monster like the Buell there. Most sportbike riders I know get an average of 5-8K out of a rear and 10-12K out of a front.

I really have no sympathy for people who do this. I do have sympathy for the people it hurts. He now has 4 children that will never get to grow up knowing/learning from him. He also has a truck driver that now has his death on the truck drivers mind for the rest of his life. he actually called family 30 min before hand to tell them he was gonna kill himself. Very sad and upsetting situation. .

I fully agree with you. What a selfish person. This is about as selfish of a thing as this person could have done.

Be careful about name calling - it's almost impossible to understand the kind of depression that causes many people to do this - but it's mental illness nonetheless, and we should be grateful we have ways and people to relieve our pain and burdens that these people don't.

I mourn both for the family and for the man who couldn't find a different way.

I dont care what kind of depression it is. There are all kinds of ways to get help and this is just a selfish way of choosing to NOT get that help or seek that help. People who commit suicide are only thinking of themselves and no one else and that is the reason it is selfish. Heck the employer this person worked for has a free help line for this exact thing through a confidential employee assistance center. There is never a reason to commit suicide but there is a reason to get help with the thoughts of suicide.

Either way helped my dad figure out a few electrical problems with his RV saving him about a thousand dollars. all he had to pay was $45 in parts .

Depression can be very debilitating. It can cause someone to think irrationally. It can cause someone to have a million thoughts all jumbled in their heads....zooming erratically until you are so overwhelmed you can't think straight...sometimes people ask for help, but get put on waiting lists...sometimes help comes too late....sometimes doctors pooh pooh that you have a problem leaving you nowhere to turn until the only thing you can think of is "which bridge?".....
Do not ever judge someone who has depression...it is a serious illness.....Some people manage on medication, therapy, sometimes long term or short term...and sometimes requires hospitalization....sometimes depression is more than sadness....it can be a chemical imbalance in the brain; it can be bi-polar disorder; perhaps schizophrenia which leads to being out of touch with reality; there are psychotic breaks whereupon the affected person can do self harm and are out of control they have no rational thought or action which cause self destructive behaviour; mental illness comes in many disguises...often undiagnosed and untreated....

Yes, it is very sad that the children will not know their father and that his wife is left alone, but it is wrong to say bad things about him. If he were killed by accident the outcome would be the same....but the harsh words would be directed at the killer...

Instead of judging him, try some compassion. He was probably suffering to the point he did not know what he was doing.
