oh man, what could it be?!

#1 Unread post by alleywayriqashay »

my bike is getting hotter the usual. even on chill day it climbs to two hundred and I don't even think I am riding aggressively. Ill take it apart soon. maybe do some cleaning in there. I could tell you what probably caused this.....

So my oil plug fell out. i guess according to most people. i got lucky. cause it fell out right in front of my job where I was pulling into. I didn't even realize it till my bike tried to slip out on me right as i turned for the sidewalk (where I park my bike). I look back and there is a nice puddle of oil underneath my back tire. I turned it off. walked it a few feet. found my plug. put it back on, With a ratchet (I forgot to use the ratchet last time!!! :frusty: ) poured more oil back in. started it up. no blue smoke. nothing coming out the exhaust. what do you think It could be or I should do?

I seriously doubt it's related to your oil plug problem.
Check your coolant level. It may be low, which can cause that.
Is your fan kicking on?
What kind of bike do you have again?

It's a 2002 gsxr. There's no coolant. Just a fan. The fan kicks on at 208 but I haven't been letting it get there. I think it hit 208 once at a red light. Then the fan kicked on

That would explain your overheating problem. I'm sure there's some coolant in there as if there really was no coolant the motor would have been deep fried crispy by now.

Yeah.... Trust me there should be plenty of coolant in there. That big metal thing in front of the engine behind the front wheel? That's your radiator and it ought to be filled with coolant. If you take off your side fairings there should be a coolant reservoir on the left side of the bike attached to the frame. Total capacity of your bike is 2.5 quarts. Fill the reservoir to between the two lines (preferably toward the top line) then run it.

On the other hand if it is registering a temperature then you have coolant because otherwise the sensor wouldn't measure anything. Which means your coolant is probably worn out, so drain it and put in some new stuff.
Just so you know it is ok for the bike to kick the fan on, that's what it's there for. If it gets to 220-230 then it's time to shut it down.
