I have lots of sun damage too. So far, only one suspicious mole has been removed, and it was benign. I can't believe how many hours I used to spend as a teenager frying my pale skin in the sun, using nothing more than baby oil. I don't even know that person anymore.oldnslo wrote:I have little spots taken off my face and body every year as a result of spending too much time in the sun as a child and young adult. Don't be a dummy, use plenty of sunblock. Of course, I know most won't, so you can do what I do when you get a bit older......
My mom used to contend that tanning in a tanning bed was a good way to get a "base tan" for protection from the real sun. This is incredibly foolish thinking. Any tan on the skin indicates sun damage - not protection. Use your sunblock folks!!

I prefer a "wake 'n' bake" myself.totalmotorcycle wrote:Always loved the term "Fake n' Bake".... hahaha.
I think it's crazy giving yourself a fake tan. Maybe the drug industry will step in and offer a "skin pigment colour change pill"... then we will be all set!! .... except for the potential side effects, but then we have other pills and meds to take care of those right?....

And they actually have been working on this pill of which you speak. I saw a story on it some years ago. It actually stimulates the glan (I think) that produces melanin. So they're claiming it to be the most natural way to get a fake tan. Haven't heard anything about it since, so perhaps they also found it to grow extra limbs or something.
All I know is, my friends who are my age (late 30's, early 40's) who still tan... they look like crap. From afar their skin is darker, sure, but up close it's dry, cracked, and very wrinkled. They look much, much older than their years. Ban the tan!!!
