I could crack about 105 mph on it when I was eighteen and resembled a toothpick. Probably not so much now. It is sitting in my shop now waiting on the motorbike fairy to bring it a new set of fork seals, valve cover gasket, new battery and some steering head bearings.
re: The SRX250 ----> I like that thing! More character than the stocker: or at least totally different character.

He seemed to have had a good vision and headed for it! The black on silver with a few highlight bits - nice. Going for a standard, almost rat-bike look. The wheel treatment is good, round headlight... really all the basics are there for having just stripped down a stocker. I would grind off all the frame tabs, definitely find something for the tail-section, and a little more seat :-) Probably try to fill the space where the battery is with something, even just a ridiculously oversized airfilter would fill that space in a bit more. Doesn't need much, just details. A disc brake on the rear would look nice too.

The standard model with red/white sporty styling is the same as the Canadian models. I hadnt thought about the bike at all in a long time, but as soon as you said it my head dug it out of the memory archives with a big "oh yeah... we did have SRX250s here".

Thanks for uploading those pix. It was a cool idea to mod that thing a bit.

Top speed is not much different on the SRX6, but it had a beautiful torque curve: perfect for the street, from 2500rpm was good and 3500-5500rpm was perfect, for that extra 5% you could rev it to 6000 or 6500, but it wasnt really worth it.

I remember riding with a couple buddies who had RZ500s at the time and they kept telling me it was going way faster than 160km/h, and I kept saying,"Guys I think those RZ speedos are more than a bit optimistic", because all I've been doing is leaving it at full throttle and I just keep it going tapped at 160 kph (100mph)... downhills I might hit 170, uphills I drop back to 150... but just maintaing momentum.

I had some fun times and great stories about riding those SRX6s... plenty of fun... man i can think of 4 or 5 good stories right off the top of my head -- one which includes a friends SRX.. and they include the first digital photos I ever took ---10 years ago! when people still said digital sucked-- on my way to becoming a photographer for 5 years)... but now i am just lazy, lazy lazy -- giggle... well not entirely true... but i can prove my equal doses of laziness and activity to anyone's "sensible" view of the world (chuckle) --precariously balancing myself out on a limb, knowing i cannot fly...

Yeah he wants to do something else with it now. We didn't have the stock seat covered at the time so that is why there is a tiny piece of ply wood with fake leather sitting there. It was only meant to get it back to my house. But now he wants to chop off most of the tail end make a custom seat. And I agree, the tabs and all need grinding off. I think he is going to paint it too. The bare metal is hard to keep clean looking, even with multiple clear coats on it. That and the dents in the tank bug the hell out of him (very much a perfectionist) and he wants to fill them in so painting it will be required. But all in all I'd say its not bad for a first time customizing a bike.

Yeah I got some stories about the ole thumper. Only time I've ever been pulled over on a bike was on that one. Officer said I made a very aggressive turn on to a side street. :kicking: Checked my license and let me go.

Slept in. Ran. Destroyed my foot, incredibly agonizing half mile back to the house (guess who will run with a cell phone from now on?). Thought foot was maybe stress fracture or something. Played video games. Worked. After working on my foot all night came to conclusion that I will live and must just have pulled something. As I was almost done with a job application and ready to ride it started pouring.

Pretty standard and crappy day. Maybe one of these days one of these job applications will turn into something and I can stop this pathetic existence that survives with video games in the rain, riding in the sun, and drinking once the sun goes down. I might have to find something else to do, I think next week I will have about nine hours at work. Which sucks, but that means I only have to put up with idiots for like a day . Oh to be useful again.

Went out with some friends to a buddy's improv comedy show. Got to be the D.D. in his 06 Jetta GLI. Rather fun little car, it's like a go-cart compared to my truck! Lightest clutch I've ever felt on ANYTHING though. No feel to it at all.
Drove a friend home from school after a freak dust devil picked up a bunch of rocks and hurled them at his car, broke out 5 of 8 windows in his car. Also damaged a ton of other cars. Felt really lucky I hadn't driven in earlier because I always park right next to him.

Going to look at a '04KX125.. it has been 10-degrees out here much of the month, but i still need a truck too (or better, just a lame-o cargo minivan) -- since i've just been travelling light with my XJ since May of last year. I made it through the winter ok, but it's time for mx fun. You dont realize all the stuff you dont have (or need, or want) when you're just lazing around.

Now that i have decided to settle here for a while i gotta get some other stuff sorted out too. boring stuff. like i dont really have space for a dirtbike either. might have to find a new place or maybe just a storage garage... hmmm... i might be able to store it with my belongings which I had shipped here (were in storage back in cowtown until recently)

I don't want to actually buy a 4-wheel vehicle, but my other option would be to get a good off-road dual-sport bike --- which i still may do, but i think a mx bike is the way to go... as good off-road dualsports are alot harder to come by cheaply. i'll just sell the van and the mxr when i go... which is with luck a couple years still.

The old XJ has been workable enough on the road -- cant kill 'em those old air-cooled Yams--- well maybe not the motor --- but the carbs have been a source of problems especially from what previous owners have done with 'em to make it less fun working on them.. i have to pull 'em again a give 'em a proper bath -- no good place for me to do that where i am at either

The Okanagan is a nice place to settle. Nice to visit, too. I go a couple of times a year to visit. The only thing I don't care for is the extreme heat in the summer.

I stepped on a nail because I was being careless. Almost went through my foot but luckily it did not. I can say I am in a tremendous amount of pain when walking on it though. Before anyone asks I had my Tetanus shot Last year March.
