If you allow everyone to post whatever they want where ever they want it would make the site messy and hard to use. This site attempts to be the best resourse for ALL motorcyclist worldwide. And we do a damn good job.

And iwnannadie, you are a good poster and have had some good points, but this 1984 bologna is just you over-reacting. You are part of this family too and as said earlier name one case where you were treated unfair. I bet you can't name one.
i dont mean post anything in any forum, but lets say you and i are talking about changing oil in the troubleshooting forum or whatever after a few posts the topic changes to what resturants you like to eat at. i dont think that sort of off topic posting should be stopped is all(and it is most places).

i guess my rant was more about other forums than here. but the mods should still admit they are there to censor. its a slippery slop to start censoring one thing it will lead to more censoring eventually based on the opinion of the mod at the moment.
Those don't get censored, it's when things start to get insulting that the mods step in. I've never seen a mod step in here, UNLESS things start to get excessively heated (Thinks back to a convo I've had with Zoo).

One of the reasons I like it here so much is the fact that we can talk about anything that happens to come up. If it starts in the wrong forum it gets moved, but threads don't get closed unless the insults start flying. You weren't around at the time, but we had a guy called Blaze wander through here once. Some of the others can fill in the details, but his threads got closed down pretty quick.

I'm starting to think that you just enjoy controversy for the sake of controversy though. Is there anything you won't argue about?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

offtopic

the worst is songs on the radio, where they dont bleep the whole word, they cut out one sound in the word. if they are going to censor they need to bleep the entire word, not snip out a syllable of it.

or certian big name artist dont get censored, i remember a radio station saying they dont censor perl jam because the singer is such an artist, or nirvana because they are great artists. makes no sense at all to me to bring art into things like this. or educational tv also, they have certain shows on discovery where they wont censor the words but others they do.

censoring is just crazy in the world right now.

This is one of the most under-moderated sites I have ever been to. For the most part, the mods allow debate, even heated debate, without getting in a tizzy. My demeanor on this site is no different than it has been on other sites, and I have been banned from two of them and PM'd left and right on another. This forum is THE BEST forum I have ever participated in and for once I don't feel like so much of an outsider. Even when things have gotten outta hand in some threads, I was treated with respect like the adult that I am, rather than being "scolded" by someone with a power hard-on.

I say BRAVO, TMW! :pbjt:

If I recall correctly, in his last thread Blaze was upset that he wrecked his scoot in a pedestrian tunnel and became quite upset when he didnt get much sympathy because he shouldnt have been riding in a pedestrian tunnel. Blaze was a good handle for him - it described his personality.

You mean they do censoring here???? Well, arse to that. I'm obviously in the wrong place and need to bugger off to another site. (One of the nice things about this site is that many common British swear words seem to have been overlooked - who says you guys are not racist!)

I like this site because it is so lightly censored. No-one starts to scream if the threads go off topic. That means they are more like conversations, which generally do just that. So called 'bad-words' do get censored automatically, but if any get through, no-one starts to get hot under the collar or starts getting heavy with the blue pencil.

I was reading some sociological research on the use of 'bad words' (for what it's worth). The conclusion these guys came to was that 'bad language' was a bonding mechanism. It was usually used in friendship groups. Weeeeell, I always thought this was a particularly friendly site.

IMHO 'bad language' is only bad if you think it is. Personally, I don't think it is bad at all. The uses to which it can be put are sometimes 'bad', like when someone starts abusing someone else with it (and when that happens here the mods step in pretty quick - so, it's a paternalistic culture!) but you can aubse people with the most ordinary words just as effectively. I think I offended Loonette recently by referring graphically to a particular biological response to fear without unsing any naughty language at all. Sorry Loonette. I didn't anticipate causing offence, but then, I was very lightly potty trained and grew up on a farm.

So, it's not the language that does it. The 'badness' of language depends on individual background and is often just cultural. I've always wanted to try this. Two perfectly ordinary English English words which you find on doors in public places all over this country are 'Toilet' and 'Lavatory'. These words are spoken daily by most Brits, but make several American friends of mine turn a funny shade of green when they hear them. I'm just curious to see what happens when I type them here.

So, I don't have any particular desire to protect youngsters from 'bad language' either because a) I don't think they will come to any harm by hearing it (it depends, of course, on the intent, as I said) and b) they probably know it already.

Here's an example from when I last left these British shores to see my Irish relatives over in the Republic. I was walking up my aunt's drive wondering what reception I was going to get (we don't see eye to eye over many things) when I was greeted by my three year old Irish cousin walking down the drive towards me waving his finger in front of him. 'You bugger off home to your own people', he said (and apparently meant it!). OK. So you just have to wonder what conversations go on in that household.

Oh Sod it! It's one o'clock and time I was in bed.

G'night all.

I moderate on several graphix forums and am a moderator on a Gestalt forum . What I find is that like here and the mods here , no one is a censor or any kind of COP . But, rather they are here , as I am where I mod , to be of service and to help out where ever and whenever they/I can .
This is a really kewl place , were it not , I would not be wasting my time . And believe me son , at my age I have no time to waste . I have a great deal of phun here and maximum phun is my main goal until I hit the end of my hallway .
Now for the best and later for the garbage .
Regards, Wizzard

The kids have heard all these words already guaranteed so censoring the posts on this board is a waste of time and a joke.
