I bought a 2006 Vstar Custom 650!
Well I went to the dealer today and they had a black 2006 custom in the showroom, so I bought it. I pick it up tommorow after I go to the bank. This will be my first bike and the only experence I have is the MSF couse I took last month, so I'm alittle nervous and excited at the same time. I hope they didn't rip me off to bad. He gave me $200 off the bike and a free full faced helmet and gloves. Let the fun begin!

Spend a little time in the parking lot revving the engine to get an idea what the throttle response is like, then spend a little time with it in 1st gear slowly letting out the clutch to see where it grabs. You'll be dealing with a little more weight than the MSF bikes, but not too much.
Good luck and congrats!

First thing you will probably find is that the friction zone is very small and almost at the end of travel. Spend some time with it, cause it will surely be different than the MSF bikes. Other then that, it is pretty easy to ride. I think you wil really like the bike. I have an 05 blue custom and am more then happy with it. It should keep you satisfied for years to come.

That is a very good choice. V-Star custom is one of the best of both world (beginner and experience). It is easy to learn with and also still have power to have some fun.
I'd say pratice a lot in parking lot, fine someone who experienced and set you up. work a lot on panic breaking and low speed control (figure 8 and slarom).
One thing to be concern V-star has very small ground clearance so you might scrape the peg now and then, don't be panic v-star can take a lot of abused on scraping. I'd say intend to drag the pegs once a while so you can feel and get used to with it.
I think I saw your post at V-Star C C & D, if you haven't do visit. that is a hang out place for all V-star.

Well I picked it up today. Stalled it twice in the dealers parking lot. He said "Why don't you practice down the back street behind the shop before you take off with it." So I went down the back street and found a church parking lot a block away. Spent about 15 minutes getting used to it, then drove it home. I also took two trips on it today. The first one lasted about a half hour, down some back streets near my house. There are stop signs every block, so I thought that would be good practice. Then tonight I drove to the local High School parking lot. Spent an hour there doing figure 8's, zig-zags, practicing turning from a stop, and quik stops. I now have 21.6 miles on my bike!
