Rubber burning smell

Being new to riding, I have a steep learning curve. So I have a question that may seem dumb. When I get past 50 mph I always smell rubber burning. Is this because the front tire only has 300 miles on it or could it be the belt heating up? Is it normal?

I would definitely check the belt. I have never had tires smell from normal use. If your back wheel is not aligned right the belt could be rubbing and that needs to be inspected, you don't wanna burn up your belt and it will cause funny handling characteristics if the wheel is off center. Also, I had a problem once with my tire rubbing the chain guard that was bent. Check those things and if ya don't know for sure then check with a good shop.

Yes definitely check the belt. Make sure it's aligned properly, and since you just had all of that electrical stuff fixed, I'd also check to make sure none of the wires are getting roasted by the exhaust or engine.

I've noticed rubber dust on the front fender. It looks like the fender and tire are making contact. I tried to adjust the fender but it's a far as it will go. I can't see can't other adjustments so I'm guess that's the way it is. I'm going to assume that's the problem since i think if the belt was the problem it would smell at 45mph also.

What size tire do you have on that beast?

110/90-19 It was fresh 800 miles ago when I bought the bike. It's at 40psi. I don't understand why I only smell it at higher speeds. If it's rubbing, wouldn't I smell it all the time?

It looks like 100/90-19. So if he has a 110/90-19, it is taller by 9mm or .354in. Depending on the bike, this may make the tire touch the front fender. I know on my 900SS, the rear portion of the front fender just about hugs the tire so it probably would not be able to accomodate such an increase.

So i have a new tire that doesn't fit the bike, great. Other than the smell and dust collecting on the fender, is there anything that I need to worry about? Is this why the bike has trouble getting over 55mph? I've noticed that at all speeds when I disengage the engine, the bike will slow considerably instead of smoothly coasting. I guess I'm answering my own question.....
