Too much heat

#1 Unread post by jstark47 »

Normally I commute by motorcycle every dry day in the summer. Not this week- it's nasty hot and humid out there, and getting worse every day. I wimped, took the air conditioned car. My commute is 31 miles one way, about half of it on I-295. No way will I ride I-295 at rush hour without gear. And with gear on, and a 1200cc I-4 throwing out heat, it's just too much to take in this weather. Especially in slow traffic.

Anybody else out there waiting for the heat to break?

I know what you mean. I CBR cooks my legs when its above 90 degrees. My Fzr heats my forearms when its 95 or more. The nighthawk doesn't seem to cook me but I am not sure how it likes the heat being air cooled. I will know who the magna is in the next few days as it will be near 100 :( :(

We are enjoying a lovely autumn here in the Greater Vancouver area. Heavy low black clouds, the odd cloud burst, temps around 15 to 20 degrees C. And the tree's are begining to turn from green to a riot of yellows, brown and oranges....ah yes....autumn in BC, lovely.....what's that you say? Its still only July and we are in the middle of summer?????? Something ain't right.....

Actually, my Connie prefers cooler days, especially when idling in traffic...nothing I like better then sitting there roasting in sun while I crawl thru the gridlock watching the engine temp gauge slow crawl up into the red zone.
Always ask why.

My bike and I prefer cooler weather too. Wearing gear is horrible in this heat and when I get to work people say I'm crazy to wear the gear and will get heat stroke. Burned ankles and sweat drips into your eyes in this humidity. But still riding as I don't have a car or car licence.

I heard about your short summer from a Canadian friend, temp sounds pleasant though, not too hot or cold.

I've been riding my buddy's RSV and our buddy's R6 around lately... Those throw off heat insanely bad, especially the RSV. The R6 hates city riding in this heat too.

I know what you mean about commuting in full gear when the weather is hot. However we are not affected very often by too high temperatures here in Blighty!

Weather today is also like Autumn - grey, drizzly with low light. The Scottish description is one of my favourite words.....DREICH!

Summer in Vancouver usually start around the end of April, beginning of May and can last well into the end of September or the middle of October on a good year. This year, we went from winter, hard a slight taste of spring, to a couple of days of summer, straight back into Autumn. Yesterday I stopped off at the bike shop that I use to service my Connie and the girl that usually works on it wasn't there. Talked with the shop owner and he said that coz of the poor weather this year, the riding season was a bust and not many people were out so he couldn't bring her on this year. Its so bad, that they are closing the shop for a couple of weeks to go visit Calgary.
Always ask why.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get a nice mild -warm even?- winter this year to compensate.

It just hit 100 degrees here. That might be minimally tolerable, except it's accompanied by frightful humidity. I just hope we don't lose the power grid - the local power company set an all-time power use record yesterday, and they'll surely break the record again today.
