GS500 F

#1 Unread post by varadero_guy »

Hi - I just have a couple of questions on this bike - this is my first "big" bike (larger than 125cc) and I want to ask:-

-What do people think about it - opinions either way would be nice

-is there any shop that sells performance parts for it (not thinking about modding now, maybe in a few months...at least.

- is there an exhaust pipe that splits into a double exhaust and may sound better than a stock one.

-Does anyone make a good workshop manual for this bike? I have tried Haynes and Clymer, and can't find it...is there a company that makes one, or is there a book for a different bike (eg. the GSX series) that most things could be carried accross to the GS500 F? - Sorry if this one is a bit confusing!!! :)

Thanks guys.

I want this same bike...

A lot of people around here feel that they're a great bike to start on, and one to continue riding if you don't feel the need to move up to something bigger.

I've been wanting a gs500E for about four months now...just now starting a new job where I'll be able to save up for one. :frusty:
I have no bike. :(
I do have a nice guitar, though. :D

yeah, I get it from a bike garage about 30mins away from me, but I will get it serviced at a garage across the road from me (literally) and everyone I have told (both garages, friends, poeple on here) have all said that it was a great option - the servicing garage especially liked it "Brilliant choice" they said, lol...only 6 days to go now :D - my mates are going to hate me this week :frusty: as I am that excited, I will keep going on about it, lol

Two pipes = twice the weight. The GS doesn't have bucketloads of power hence why it is quite bare, as the key is to improve the power to weight ratio. I don't think the benefits of a twin exhaust would outweigh (no pun intended) the cost/extra pounds.

lol, ok fair enough, cheers. :) does anyone have any info on number 4 (about the manual) as that would probably be the most useful to me at the moment - btw, I have put down a deposit on my GS now - 5 days to go - woo hoo!!!

***EDIT*** could I use this one-->http://www.themotorbookstore.com/suzgs500etwi.html I ask as it is the same bike without the fairing and surely the engine is near enough the same - hope I can use this as the shop around the corner from me has them, lol. :)

The 02 GS500 manual should be quite helpful with any GS500 model for normal maintenance and repair of anything but the bodywork, headlights, etc, little has changed on the GS since it came out in 89. Also the oil cooler was added to the F models in 04.

You can get all the help you need on the bike over at http://www.gstwins.com/forum/ There's folks there with all models thru 05 and generally answers come quickly for your problems. Many have done the performance and noise mods. I've done my last 100k miles on my GSs, both stock.
407,211 miles in 30.1 years for 13,528 miles/year average. Started 7/21/84, updated 8/26/14
