I have been reading about a Brit Tamsin Jones who has ridden 5359m up Everest! She did it on a Chinese 250cc & beat the previous record also held by a woman! She is also a veteran of the Dakar & twice winner of the ladies titles in both the Red Bull Romaniacs & British Enduro championships, so must be a hell of a gal.
It got me to wondering what's the maddest or perhaps most dangerous motorcycle adventure that you have had?
I haven't done much really, certainly not in that league! Endurance wise probably Scotland & back in a weekend for a mates funeral would be the most exhausting, but that was only on the back of the Rocket.
So over to you guys...................who has done the wildest stunt/trip?
MOG
The roar of her mighty TRIUMPH was heard throughout the land
Not a wild or mad stunt, but probably not the safest thing we ever did:
Touring Nova Scotia in 2008, when at the end of a long riding day, in fading light, in the rain, on fully loaded bikes, I elected to push on and lead my wife up 75 miles of the east side of the Cabot Trail. We were running the Trail counterclockwise, so all the steep drop-offs were on our side of the road. Don't know if they've repaved that road since, but in '08 the east side of the Trail was full of bumps and ridges in the road. Probably not a big deal when well rested, in good light and a dry road, but tired, in the rain, in bad light- not smart on my part.
I should have stopped in Baddeck, but we had reservations in Neils Harbour so I pushed on. I was on the V-strom, she was on the Trophy (it was her bike back then). She had the Trophy heavily loaded. Having ridden that bike a lot since then, I now understand the danger zone I put her in. (To this day I still prefer the V-strom in the rain.) It's a soft-sprung, top heavy bike (and that's unladen).
We got there without incident, but she wouldn't get back on her bike for two days. Said she was tired, but I think her nerves were shot from the experience. This was the tour that taught me day after day of 400-500 mile runs is for young people. For us, 200-300 miles to a location, then 2-3 days sightseeing at that location is more the ticket.
