what would you recommend for a first bike for me.
Hello, I am a 32yo 130# woman. I haven't been on a street bike yet... my husband started me on a 100 dirtbike, then I moved up to a 4 stroke 125 kawi race dirt bike. He is now looking for a 80 two stroke for me to move up to next. with my height and weight, I was wondering what others would suggest (sport bike, no cruzers and I'm not a fan of the naked look). My husband rides a gsxr600, and I don't really have much to spend on a bike. the obvious is the ninja 250 but ... I just don't want to jump on it and be bored in a month. all suggestions are appreciated also give reasons for your suggestions so I can compare. Trying to do my research.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I too would suggest a Ninja 250 or even a 500. You may want to look at Hyosung 250 or 650.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Hi
No specific suggestions but the 250 Ninja would be good. Go to all your local dealers & try as big a variety as you can. You can then look at the secondhand private market to actually purchase a bike.
Good luck & happy riding

Here's a good read about a Busa rider taking a trip on a Ninja 250:

If your considering a bike the price of a new Ninja 250 also consider the new CBR250R which I'd prefer to the Baby Ninja for myself:

I would prefer the cbr definitely, the problem with it is the lack of top speed. and lack of current mods to increase the top speed. It's unfortunate that the states don't have the variety that the rest of the world has. there's a slew of bike out there that would be fantastic, but they aren't available in the states.

If you have the right attitude and respect, look at an SV 650
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

This, or a Ninja 650R, though I'm a fan boy.sapaul wrote:If you have the right attitude and respect, look at an SV 650

I think the SV650 in 2003 gained a bikini faring in front of the instruments...the SV650S has always had the 1/2 faring or 1/4 faring, however you view it...but you may really like the SV650SA...full faring...chewy wrote:can someone help me out and tell me which years/models of the sv has the fairing? pulled up a utube and found the 2008 sv650s has a fairing... like it MUCH better than without.
Very sporty looking and goes pretty good to boot...too tight for my liking, but my flexibility isn't great...I'm working on that though...
Other sporty bikes to consider...
Yamaha FZ6R

Hyosung GT650

Honda CBF600

Suzuki DL650 V Strom "Wee Strom"

You can get lower farings for the 'Strom...and I think it looks pretty sharp...

I'm sure there are more bikes that would fit into the powerful but not scary category...
You could also look at the GSX650F...it's a little higher performance at 85hp, but the power comes on smooth...no peaks...
Have fun...
Later.

Re: what would you recommend for a first bike for me.
I missed the part about you being from the States, the Honda CBF wasn't available down there and I don't know if you got the SV650SA...the 'Strom may be a little tall for you...and I forgot to mention the Kawasaki Ninja 400R...it's a really nice bike to start on for the street...but again, not an American model...of the ones I listed above, the Yamaha might be the best bike for you...the Ninja 250 will get upto 100mph, so top speed shouldn't be too much of an issue...just don't expect to have lots of roll on power...
