I'm doing a trip this next weekend.
I was planning to return (700+ miles) in one day, so today I did a 400 mile trip.

Now I know I am going to break my return into 2 days.

Today's stats:

Total distance 393.24 miles
moving time: 6 hrs 24 min
Stopped: 1 hr 45 min
Moving ave: 61.3 mph
Overall Ave: 48.1 mph (45mph is considered a good overall ave for cross country riding)

Max Speed 86.8 mph (Passing a double-length semi on the highway - you don't want to take too long doing that)

Everyones body is different for the long trips and if it is going to be your first long trip you will get more tired then you expect so take the stops and dont over push your self. If you plan to go so far but find you are so tired before that point stop for the day or stop for a few hours and rest or do something else. I find if I take a few small walks during the day off the bike helps. Keep hydrated too or talk a hydra pack so you can drink water was you ride. In anycase you will need to stop for gas and food. As you do more longer trips you will find what works best for you. That is sometimes why you see the solo riders.
