And they ride like a hardtail. Buy a used Datsun Z-car from '70 through '78. Much nicer, and ride nice, too, not to mention cheaper and more available parts. I've had 5 of 'em. It is getting harder to find nice ones, though. Try zcar.com.

Pre-manufactured kits are available for installing small-block chevies and Fords in Z-cars, so it can be done right. A 350 Chev weighs about a hundred pounds more than a stock Datsun 6, and with the setback, affects the handling only a little.

Back in the '70S, race-prepped Z-cars made fools of the much heavier Corvettes and Camaros, at least at Portland Internantional Raceway. They could out-corner the big v-8's every time, going in deeper and powering out faster. There is a fine line, however, which must not be crossed if you want a Datsun 6 to hold together. In stock form, they are practically indestructible, but making them put out too much horsepower brings out a tendency to spontaneously disassemble.
They are truly great cars, but getting scarcer in unmolested form as the years pass by.

Heh.
Was it a red one with a big sunroof, and was the seller named Mo?
Cuz if it is...I know the guy. One of my best friends. He bought that baby just a couple of months ago. Paid a lot more than that for it. Enjoyed driving it, and was not happy at all when it started going south on him.
