Have had a very interesting tho somewhat intense day. I was attending a regional symposium for Organ Donation. The speakers were quite high powered from Dept of Health to Anaesthetic research intensivists.

The most powerful presentations were from a donor + a recipient families. I cannot post details but suffice toi say the donor story was that of a 5yr old child.

If you have not yet done so please consider putting yourself on your countrys' donation register. Afterall as bikers we are statistically quite likely to end up in intensive care.

On a lighter note my hotel is opposite a large bike showroom. I arrived back just as it was closing but the very cute guy who was locking up said do come back in the morning!

My plan is to go to the medieval Exeter Cathedral in time for 11am & pay my Armistice respects. Maybe a little liight relief in the bike showroom will be a pleasant diversion after that. :D

Had a relaxing day today having stayed overnight in Exeter after conference.

I took the opportunity of going to the Cathedral for 11am. Unfortunately there wasn't a full service, but it was a reflective place to be to observe the 2 minute silence, & there was a good turnout of people of all ages.

Now as the Cathedral was built from 1050 to 1320 it obviously contains a great deal of history. There are little chapels all around the edge, some with relics nearly 1000yrs old!

I did come across some interesting nuggets. The son of the legendary Flora MacDonald is buried here. Flora helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape as immortalised in the song "Over the sea to Skye".

The sledge flag of Captain Scott of the Antartic is displayed, his family lived nearby.

My eye was also drawn to a marble wall carving,
Partly because the name is very close to that of my ex (& daughters). So as a little treat for all you Canadian colonials I took a picture. Then outside in the Cathedral Close I found a clearer plaque which I am sure you will appreciate

After juggling some cash around I have finally invested in a laptop. I have been posting online mostly via my Blackberry & my eyesight is beginning to suffer  I hope that I can add to my photo posts more easily, as soon as I have figured out how to use it properly

Thought it's about time I revived my blog & as we are going away at the weekend for our first bike trip of the year it will be fun to post a few pics from the BMAD festival.

The weather over here has been atrocious with very heavy rain + high winds. All the rivers in the south west are on flood alert & we are going to the seaside! I have been tracking the forecast & hopefully we will have a relatively dry day to ride down & after that who cares - the beer tent will be open!

I do hope we get some riding in tho as we love the area & there are some fun roads especially on top of Dartmoor.

So now I have woken up my blog I find I have nothing much to say, but I will return soon :D

So the countdown to the weekend continues. Today I have been trying to tidy the house as it is depressing to arrive home to a mess. I have been very naughty & took the easy option of taking all bed linen etc to the launderette for a service wash as the weather has been hopeless here.

Whilst the washing was being done I had a nice rest in the hairdressers next door :D

The bikes need a quick service & wash but I am being a girlie :cheerleader: & leaving that to himself tomorrow. I did try to move the large potted shrub which has fallen over in the storms of the last few days in front of the bike shed doors, but it is too heavy for one. Still it does mean that noone can nick the bikes before Thursday!

Great ride down to Devon even tho we had rain for the first half of journey.

Lots of hills which my bike just eats. Am a little bit squiffy now due to painkillers + ale, so excuse me if I now retire.

Hopefully lots of bikes + pics Fri/Sat

Great ride down yesterday even tho we set off later than was planned. We had been waiting in vain for the rain to stop but around 3pm decided it was now or never.
Fortunately the rain cleared about halfway down + my new leathers kept me warm, all but my hands - might treat myself to new gloves this w/e!

The latter part of the ride was great, partly as we seemed to miss the traffic. There was a minor accident on one of the country roads which meant the police had to limit traffic flow to one way. Whilst unfortunate for the car accident people it meant after some naughty overtaking (would never have risked it but obvious oncoming traffic stopped), I got to the front of the queue. I got a thank you from both the ambulance driver + the policewoman for pulling over to let tgem pass. When we got the signal to go I had about 15 miles of completely clear, dry, twisty road all to myself! Rocketman had gone ahead but we always have a stop at a particular place so I knew I would see him there + I had the sandwiches!

The accommodation is quite comfortable & only 2 minutes walk from town + the festival which is on the links.

The event officially opens in about an hour so I'm off for a quick shower before we hit the beer tent

Have just woken very early (4am) on the morning of our last day here & at last have some tinternet access (it has been very intermittent).

So to catch up..............the weekend has been fun with good attendance - especially yesterday when it was bright & sunny :sunshine: It has been dry but fairly dull tho thankfully not as cold as last year.

The beer tent has been packed as usual & town (which is small & very tourist orientated, has been thronging with bikers from every genre. Next door to us is a small hotel which is full of HD riders from Wolverhampton with their very ditinctive midlands accent (think Noddy Holder).

On Saturday we went down to the fishing port of !rixham which was having a pirate festival & again had good crowds with a family atmosphere.

The party is over & it is time to ride home :(
Fortunately it is dry & sunny so it should be a pleasant trip.

I now have 2 hours to shower, pack have breakfast & clean up apartment!

Sad to have only 2 bikes left in the car park (albeit lovely ones)
