Hey, what does this do?

#1 Unread post by EatenbyAsphalt »

So, I was over at MC-USA because I like to read the articles  and they commonly do project bikes. The one I was reading was about the 2011 Kawasaki Z1000. No link, find it yourself. In the story about it, they replaced the handle bars with Renthal bars with an inch chopped off each side. What does that accomplish? See, I want to improve my ER-6n but there isn't much on the market for aftermarket parts. Well, not that that has ever stopped me from trying something. So what kind of improvements could a person make to their bike if the market has nothing? Yes, I know I could be looking at Ninja 650 parts but I want to go beyond the cookie-cutter crap and make it personal.

Ummm, your ER has a pretty darn big aftermarket. Heck one company even came out with a turbo kit for it.

Funny, any time I google for parts I get nothing. Oh well, that wasn't really the answer I was looking for. Thanks anyway, I'll go back to my search then.

What company? I'll check them out but I'm not looking for a turbo, maybe they have things I could use.

Head over to motorcyclesuperstore.com, bikebandit.com, jpcycle.com, bing.com, motorcyclegear.com, etc, and almost all of them have a "search by bike" feature.

I've been to everyone of those sites over the past few months and all I get is tires and mufflers. Got something else?

Well, I was trying to understand why someone would take Renthal handle bars for a 250 dirt bike and put them on a 1000cc sportbike. That lead me to wonder what you can do to a bike that isn't cookie-cutter material but I think I may have to experiment and find out for myself. By the way, I found parts for my ER-6n in the UK and Europe, the US outlets carry very little for my bike. Tires, mufflers and oil filters mostly.

1. Renthal bars are much better made, stronger, and lighter than the POS OEM bar.

2. Option of different bends.

3. By going narrower as the guy did, it quickens the steering at the expense of leverage.

4. Z1000 is not a sportbike...

Right, so let's nit-pick the issue.
