Re: 2011 Ride to the Mountains~~~Crash~~~
Here are some pics of how things started today. I did the painting and epoxy yesterday...

Full tear down...

Pieces that were painted flat black...the air covers were aluminum, the fork protectors were silver and the heat shields were black before...I know, the paint didn't cover the scratches, but it is better than it was...

These were all silver before...I thought it would be a nice mix...flat black & cobalt blue...the only things I left silver are the fuel tank & the speedo casing (tripple clamps are still aluminum, same as the handle bars...white lies I guess)
That last exhaust trim ring was in five pieces, so it got the epoxy treatment...it isn't completely round, but I'm hoping it will still go on...might have to use my heat gun a little to make it flex better...we'll see...
I did get the new fork mostly into place, but I have to loosen the tripples to align them...nothing is bent, but they aren't lined up so the fork won't go on all the way (isn't parallel either)...so I'll loosen them to get everything lined up, then I will re-torque...then it should be just a matter of putting all the bits back on, then oil change, clean & lube the chain (along with the rear swing arm & rim)...then take it out for a spin...slow & short ride first...re-check the torques, then go for a ride...hopefully the shake down ride will happen Friday night or Saturday morning...then ride on Sunday afternoon if all goes well...otherwise, next week...and I still have some work to do on the truck...this just never ends...
Later.

Re: 2011 Ride to the Mountains~~~Crash~~~
Well, I finally made some time to work on the bike Friday evening and Saturday afternoon...
Here's some pics from Friday evening's work...

Saturday, I ran into town to get some "supplies"...then back to work...

Assembly is now complete...just have one piece to replace...the shift lever...then just some maintenance and ride...
So my bike went from this...

To this...

To this...

What do you think of the new paint scheme??

I'm always impressed with people that can actually do all the work required to restore a bike like you're doing... Looks awesome...

Thanks...I do like it...
I got to ride my baby tonight...it's still a little off (bars aren't perfect, so I will order more parts to correct), but the shake down ride went very well...smooth ride, good turning & great brakes...so I will use it on short rides, but not too far until the bars are right...

Re: 2011 Ride to the Mountains~~~Crash~~~
Okay...ummm...no parts were needed, just a brain fart...loosened the forks & aligned the bars to the wheel...all is good now!! (can't believe that I rode it to work with the bars out of alignment...what a DORK!!)
Anyway, all is good now...so oil change tomorrow night, clean & lube the chain and I should be good to go.
Time to start playing the picture game...

That's one pretty bike, too bad about that real ugly bugger spoiling the shots by getting it the way.

Always ask why.
