Ventura luggage on R1200R
When I bought the R1200R I knew that I did not want the BMW panniers, although they are good, for me they just change the look of the bike too much. I knew of the Ventura kits and went for that system. Had to wait a while as they had to be brought in from New Zealand. Duly they arrive and they took maybe 20 mins to fit. Sorry for me I have not had a chance to get away to try them out, so I threw my laptop in and went to see a client as a test run.
Total paranoia, I can't see the bag in my mirrors and you can't feel the difference in the performance of the bike, I had to keep checking to see if it was still there.
Of course it was as the system is really secure, I am sure I will get used to it and am a happy camper me.

Is it easy to take off the rack when you're not using the bag?

Re: Ventura luggage on R1200R
Yeah, real easy. I got the grab handle with the kit I ordered and that just slips onto place when the pack rack comes of. You can also get a small pack rack and small bag that will do the job of a top box. That's next on my budget list.
There are two knurled screws that keep the rack and the attachments together. Takes seconds to change.

That's interesting as one of the big selling points of a BMW for me are their great hard saddle bags.sapaul wrote:When I bought the R1200R I knew that I did not want the BMW panniers
I too like the look of the bike without the bags so I rarely have them on; but when I need them, they are great.

Yep, IIRC, they're the only manufacturer that's got a standard/naked/roadster/whatever with the option of OEM hard panniers. Different strokes for different folks of course.
PS., great looking bike, sapaul. I love the "Metzeler" tank pad.

Re: Ventura luggage on R1200R
I have a GS with top box and hard boxes, and I know when they are on, and it does affect the handling of the bike. My missus has a 600 RR, not the best for touring. If she wants to ride the R12R, this is the best option as the handling is not affected at all. For shorter trips you turn the bag around if you have a pillion, longer trips you can zip another bag to that one.HYPERR wrote:That's interesting as one of the big selling points of a BMW for me are their great hard saddle bags.sapaul wrote:When I bought the R1200R I knew that I did not want the BMW panniers
