There might be a rattle you can't figure out coming from your motor, but honestly with how deep it is in there, you probably won't hear it unless you're running stock exhaust. Maybe go pick up a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the motor. You'll hear all kinds of funny noises in there, but if you listen to it and hear chain slap you should get the cam chain tensioner replaced.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm generally not paranoid,but this whole thing kind of freaks me out. I really don't want to incur the expense of needlessly replacing the parts "just in case" they might go bad. Kind of like having your appendix removed because it might become infected.I wonder what per cent of the units have actually failed? It apparently wasn't enough to cause a recall.

Honestly I have no idea how common the problem is, but I haven't heard about it except from HD owners, so it obviously isn't too common. Listen to it, and if you don't hear anything slapping around inside you should be fine.
