Ok just got a 2002 Ninja 500 last night. I need to picked a shop manual and start checking everything. But in the meantime how do you adjust the clutch? On the lever there is this little dial with numers 1 through 5 and then there is a screw thing between the cable sleeve and the lever assembly exactly like you would see on a regular pedal bike. If I have the lever all the way in, and the bike in first, when I try to start it I can feel the bike start to pull forward slightly. Plus shifting feels like how a car shifts when you don't have the clutch all the way in.
So how do I adust the clutch so that it's fully disengaged when the lever is all the way in, but all the way engaged when the lever is released?
Adjusting clutch?

The round thing with the numbers is a lever adjustment, it determines how far from the bar the lever is. Watch the lever while you turn the dial, try riding your bike with the farthest out setting. On my bike it's "1".
If that's not enough, unlock the cable adjustment on the bar and turn the cable housing adjustment to where your lever has a small amount of play at the tip.
Also, try a google search for "clutch adjustment, nija 500" or similar.

Unless your cable is stretched from wear you should have about an 1/8 of an inch of play in it .
