Here is the link to our forum http://forums.delphiforums.com/vanislandscrc/start You can enter as a guest but guests cannot post. If you happen to be a "delphi member", possibly of some other group then you can log in and post.

Here is the link to the website http://www.scrc443.com/ I don't think we have link to the new chapter. Perhaps they don't have a website just yet. It may take a while. I don't even see an email for the first officer of the Langley chapter. Give it time I suppose.

Iffen you and DR_Bar decide to come over for a day or two give me a heads up and I can join you for some of the riding at least on the south end of the island. I have a part time job that leaves me free each day after about 8 am. The big problem with this job is that it is seven days a week. My wife used to fill in for me on weekends if I wanted to go some place however some days she is not well enough to do that. But like I said. I can be free to ride affter 8:00 am.

Hey, old-n-slow, if you see a big guy on a red Virago going by, give him a wave. It might be dr_bar. He's gone to the island for a few days to see a friend.

In the meantime, I've been getting out to the fraser Valley a couple of times. Man oh man, it sure is busy out there.
I rode into Clearbrook looking for the bike shop on Peardonville, but I could not find it. I will have to phone them for directions to their shop.
They carry Draggin Jeans and I would like to see if I can get a pair.

According the Draggin jeans website, you can even get them custom made. I may have to do that if I can't find any anywhere.

Any shops in Victoria have a good selection of motorcycle clothing?

Yes there is one, but I can't think of their name right now. a seniors moment I guess. ..................... EDITED: Here is the link http://www.action-motorcycles.com/ ........... However I'm not saying that their prices are good just that they seemed to have a reasonable selection.

Here is a link that should be of interest to you (I think) http://www.650ccnd.com/shaft2.htm THis gives you instructions on how to grease the spline on the yamaha shaft drive. VERY IMPORTANT!. Many people are having expensive problems with these bikes because (so it would appear) Yamaha has either used a poor quality lube or many simply slipped through from the factory without having been properly lubed. I hear that the 1100's are having similar problems.

One of our local riders has 17k on her bike and it just failed on her. Naturally the warrantee was good till march and this happened in July. She was able to get Yamaha to cover the parts however and only had the expense for the labor. Yamaha is fully aware of the problem. That doesn't mean they are doing anything about it.

Thanks for the links. I just finished reading the one with the drive shaft pictures. It's very timely because I am taking my bike in to the dealer on Saturday for it's 7,000km service.
I will be making sure they check the final drive again because it is still squeaking....and this time it hasn't been anywhere near water.

Now I can go back and check out the other link you left.

I don't know what's wrong with this website tonight, but it's so-o-o-o-o slo-o-o-ow-ow-ow....so I will make one post with two subjects. If I can remember what the second one was. Your senior moment must be contagious....

You mentioned a member had her bike fail. What was it that failed?

I checked out the action link. The big picture at the top is of a Honda 1300 VLX. There was a woman on the ferry the last time I was coming back from the Sunshine Coast who had one of those. It sure is big.

The last time I took my bike in to have them check out the squeaking in the final drive, they said it was full of water. They dried it out and lubed it but it still squeaks. Maybe there is something else squeaking as well. I can actually hear it when I am outside riding either going slow or making slow turns. Whatever it is, they better figure it out before my warranty is up.

I'll let you know what they had to say after I get it back on Saturday afternoon.

If I had the cash I would buy a Victory. :)

Oops sorry. Iguess I didn't make it clear. :? The final drive failed. The exact thing that I posted the link on. Apparently it is happening a LOT with Yamaha Vstars. Like maybe the bozo that assembles that part at the factory needs to be relocated to emptying the waste recepticles?

I suspect that Yamaha is addressing the problem by now however at $2000 plus, to repair, there are going to be plenty of out of warrantee owners that are NOT TOO HAPPY.

mAKE SURE THAT THE SERVICE SHOP KNOWS THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SPLINE ON THE FINAL DRIVE.

Damn I hate that when the caps lock gets locked down.............. :?

Finally I am home from the bike shop. They were short staffed today so it took all day for mine to get done.

Anyway, this morning when I took the bike in, the regular service guy was not on the desk. The manager was.
I explained about the squeak and that I've been in twice already and that I knew someone else whose final drive failed and that apparently it was a problem that Yamaha knew about.
He admitted that, yes, some of the larger bikes were having "issues" with lack of lube in the splines. I suggested that maybe it's also in the 650's as well.
He agreed maybe so. I made sure he wrote it down on the service order so that the mechanic would be sure to grease the splines.
Hopefully I won't hear any more squeaking.

It may be my imagination, but it sure did feel peppy riding home.
Services sure are expensive. I think I should find a course to learn to maintain my own bike.

I hear you about the cost of the servicing. Not only that but parts don't come cheap either. I guess that's the price you pay for enjoying yourself. I try to fix everything I can myself but there are times when it just isn't practical or possible. Both my bikes are old enough that there are no warranties to hinder me . Ha ha.

Glad to hear that the bike felt peppier. Perhaps lubing the spline reduced some of the friction, leaving the horsepower to go where it is supposed to. Ha ha.

We sure had a fabulous day here on the Rock. I joined a few other rider friends to do a Poker run put on by the Defenders MC Club. That took us to , Shawnigan lake, Cowichan lake, Chemanus and Crofton then back home to Victoria . I logged 225 k on the run so not a bad day at all. Very hot. Not even much relief during highway travel. Mind you, I wear my leather jacket and chaps at all times so I may have suffered a bit more than the others.

Had a great ride, enjoyed myself, good company, good roads, fabulous day. Other than that I had a lousy poker hand so regarding that, my luck ran true to course. LOL

Like yourself, I wear my motorcycle jacket even on the hot days. Mine is cordura with kevlar though. I have no extra money for any more gear at the moment. My gloves are leather gauntlets with a bit of armour on the knuckles. I don't notice the heat so much when I'm moving, but when I have to stop for lights, phew, I feel the heat.

It seems like the squeak in the rear end of the bike is gone. However, now there is a squeak on the front wheel. It is probably a result of having the disc lock jammed in the brake and fork last week. I will have to address that next.

It sounds like you sure did have a good day. I just went for a short jaunt to my friend's in Poco....with a bread machine strapped to the rack. :o

I am trying to declutter and "downsize" my possessions and mess. A friend in Poco wanted thebread machine, so I used the cargo net and a bungee to keep it steady and got there with no problem.

It was especially nice riding today because there was so little traffic here this weekend. Even the parks had very few people in them. I think many people must have gone away. I wish they would go away permanently.
