SUv's

#1 Unread post by iwannadie »

ok i saw something today that was just stupid. this women had an SUV so Big should couldnt back out of a parking spot, her husband had to get out and give her hand signals to guide her. it seemed like a routine thing for them also, if she cant see well enough to back out of a parking spot what makes her think she can see well enough to drive on the roads in it??

i see alot of people bringing up helmet laws and showing fatalities are going up. maybe the reason more bikers are dying is because of the vehicles hitting them keep getting bigger and the people cant drive these vehicles. i think they need to make a new class for SUVs and require a different license for them.

I agree. If the avereage level of competancy of motorcycle riders was equal to that of the cage drivers average, you couldn't walk down the street without slipping in the entrails of some bike or another.

But I doubt anything will ever be done to raise the skill levels of your average cage driver in N.A. It is an almost sacred right to be allowed to drive..... having to prove you can do it is taken as a violation of our rights.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

right to drive sure, but at what point is the averae beast of an SUV consider a 'normal' vehicle and not a class C vehicle, whats the point of having different classes if we dont put them to use. if someone wants the biggest suv i dont have a problem with that. but at least require a different license for it to make sure the person is capable of handling it.

obviously driving an excursion is different than a civic so the class of license should reflect that.

but it never will i guess so its all pointless.

Dangerous territory...

An RS125 is a lot different to a Hyabusa or a Goldwing.

Too right. What scares me most is the 70 year old retired couple who never drove anything bigger than a chevy citation running up and down the road in a 40 ft class 'A' motorhome, or better yet, pulling a 35 ft 5th wheel......

You think it's bad down there, this is where they all start from. At least they have a few thousand miles pratice by the time you see them, they go by me with mere minutes of experiance, still scared chitless to even turn thier eyes away from straight ahead, both hands in a deathgrip on the wheel and cold sweat running into thier eyes....

You should see them back-up...... :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:

Actually There's a greain of truth to this according to AMA and DoT... About a year ago Motorcycle Consumer News Printed a joint study that showed a motorcyclists chances of dying increase exponentially when a collision occurs w/ an SUV as opposed to a regular car.

A few points - If the front or front corner of the SUV (or Truck) impacts the rider, there is more likely a chance of chest/lung trauma since the front of many larger vehicles are flat and come up to the riders abdoment. Normal cars, the rider can roll over the top of the hood w/ minimal damage to the legs. Or ... if a bike hits the side of the SUV, same thing. Instead of flying over the car, the rider goes headfirst into the door or through the window, potentially killing himself and SUV operator.

Maybe I can find a link to the article somewhere and post it...
