Normal riding RPM
I recently got my first bike and am not really sure what RPM is to high to consistantly stay at. Driving my car I always make sure im below 4000 RPM (redline 9k) when just cruising. On a my bike is it ok to cruise in say 3rd or 4th at 5k RPM (redline 11k) or should I keep it lower around 3k RPM? Hope that made sense to everyone. Thanks

Re: Normal riding RPM
Andrew with the triple your torque is a bit more readily available than in an I-4 motor but not as available as in a twin so that question is a bit tough to answer. I would say as long as you maintain pull away power availability and some nice grunt in the lower rpm's your ok but the rider has as much to do with that as anything else it's about your comfort zone too.

Re: Normal riding RPM
Basically keep it at whatever engine speed it's happy at. If it's not lugging the motor, and it's not spinning into the stratosphere, you're golden.

Re: Normal riding RPM
Hello Andrew, and welcome to the forum. What I'd do is go for a ride out on the highway and just go the speed limit in 5th gear. That's the RPM you should try to run at. Are you going to show us that Triumph?
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Waitaminute I just reread the first post. Your first bike is a 955? Take it slow... That's a very powerful motor you have there.

Re: Normal riding RPM
That there is why I kinda went into depth on the explanation , not sure how much a new rider has and for sure be careful on that machine while it's not a 1050 it is not a toy either!!!!!!
Best of luck with it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Normal riding RPM
I'll get a picture up for you soon. Ya originally I only wanted a 600 but for the price/miles/condition I felt like I couldn't pass it up. I'm very very easy on the throttle and slow on the turns trying to gain faith in the bike and myself. So far so good!!

Re: Normal riding RPM
I do all the work to my own bike. Adjusting valves is a must, to keeping a machine running good. I tune by ear. I know when it sounds right or wrong.
