Am I too old to buy a new Road King?

#1 Unread post by Haeberle »

Greetings,

I test drove the 2013 Road King and really liked it. Currently I ride a Sportster. My question is at 56, am I going to have enough time riding a big touring bike before I will need to downgrade back down to a Sportster?

I like the light feel of the Sportster, but would like to have the cruise control, ABS, and big bike feel of the Road King.

Thanks for your input.

I say go for it. What makes you think you'd downgrade later?

I've never seen a young person riding a Road King. I would say you are pretty much the exact demographic that Harley had in mind when they built that bike. :)

The Road King is 811 pounds wet. I don't know if I could pick it up if I dropped it.

It's all about technique. I couldn't find the video of the old lady lifting the goldwing, but here's an older gentleman lifting a goldwing

And or course- here's a girl doing it!

It's about 800 pounds dry.

Here's an older lady with a slightly smaller, but much more top heavy bike.

I am a couple of years younger than you and really like the heavyweights for the long distance stuff. Be careful, you can et hooked on touring very easily.

Hey how old are you mentally? Old enough to be responsible, young enough to enjoy, that's all you need.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R
