I rode my motorcycle today...

#1 Unread post by Wrider »

And I have decided that I like speed way too much for my own good. Blues you might want to stop reading right here... lol

My buddy and I have been riding together since I got this bike last January. We have very similar riding styles. Both of us are about the same except he's a LOT smaller (about 110) and on a 05 636 versus my Z750S. He's quicker, has better suspension, and is lighter. But we ride at about the same pace.

So today we took out some friends we've been riding with this year. One guy is on a factory prepped Yoshimura GSX-R1000 who knows what he has and talks a lot of smack about it, another on a modded GSX-R600, and a buddy on a Ninja 250. We know the 600 guy can keep up with us. The 250 guy is pretty new so we weren't expecting him to keep up with us. But we really wanted to see if the 1000 guy was anywhere near as good as his bike. Long story short? Nope... lol

We were on a backroad that was new to me. Absolutely beautiful. 65 MPH speed limit, a lot of 35 or 40 MPH posted corners, and good clean asphalt. I was doing about 5 over through one of the really twisty bits, and there's nothing quite like scraping your boot as you apex a corner perfectly, feeling every detail of the road beneath your tires, looking through the corner at the next apex.

My buddy was leading the ride, and I kept right on his tail. The guy on the 1000? At least 2 or 3 corners behind us the entire time. Definitely stopped his mouth though. He was pretty shocked that a guy my size on a bike with such bad suspension could outrun him. That's a good feeling.

I get the same happy feeling when I out run and out corner some young pup on his RR600 with my old heavy Connie.
Always ask why.

Nothing like it is there? So many squids here in the Springs because of the military population, and any of them can twist the throttle, but it's so hard to find someone willing to try to keep up in the twisty bits. Then when you do find someone willing, they just can't!

Twisties are my favorite thing. Sadly here in Northern Jersey riding is just becoming less and less fun as it seems to be getting more and more populated.

I have to ride for almost an hour just to get to some decent roads!

That's bad... We have decent roads in town, but if we really want to get leaned over, we can take one decent road to multiple very twisty roads less than a half hour away.

Mr brackstone you are more than welcome to pop out with us in Sussex county the roads are still very very good hear, We have a great core group well represented a few Triumphs , Buells and some Japanese machines now that the Buells are thinning out.
We follow THE PACE and will do a few big group rides a year. Just about every weekend someone is doing something where are you in Jersey?
Sorry to thread jack one of the funnest things about being an old portly fella is watching the look on the young guns when you absolutely shred a twisty and look back at em at an intersection they are usually wide eyed as a rabbit at an airport
there aint nothin like it

Ya, I went for a ride yesterday. It was exciting. I just rode back highways, but it was fun still. The back highways have hills and curves, that make things a little more exciting. 70 mph highways are mainly straight and fun too, but my scooter will only do 70 mph- so it is no fun being passed by everyone. lol

Lucky you, I had to take the transit limo's to work today and will for the next week at least......

As for good road, when I started riding, there were a lot of good fun local roads with little traffic to play on, now not so much. With the urban sprawl and gentrification (read as pussification) of our streets, what with stop light every couple of block, straightening out of fun bends, and extra traffic, I almost have to burn through half a tank of fuel before I can find wide open fun roads these days.
Always ask why.
