Sweet Justice
Sweet Justice
Hey all im new to the forums here and enjoying them.
'Bout a year and a half ago i was splitting lanes in dead stop traffic on the 8 in San Diego on my gsxr. Doing about 10mph came upon a black mid 80s Chevy Blazer. Just before i passed him on the right, a yellow broomstick emerged from the passenger side window and smacked my visor. It knocked my head back a little and made me wobble my bars a bit. I sped up and merged into the far left lane about three cages ahead of him. He then merged into the same lane, three cages behind.
Not knowing what i was going to do, i went over into the shoulder. Just as i looked back at him to get a plate or a face, a CHP officer in a cruiser pulled up along side him lights and a few blaps on the siren/horn.
So the guy pulls over and i stop up ahead to watch and enjoy. Guy must have had a bunch of tickets or an arrest warrant cause the officer cuffed him and his passenger as other cruisers arrived shortly. One CHP came and asked me if i was alright, saw me smiling, told me the dangers of lane splitting and said "have a nice day, these guys are going to jail".
For the rest of the ride home i did not split any lanes, but was overjoyed at the fact that finally there was some justice done to an "O Ring" cager, when so many times before there wasn't. I was pretty shaken up though when i realized how bad that situation could have been. Its good to be alive and riding.

Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do judge them you are a mile away, and you have their shoes.

Yeah, I hate it when people split lanes too... I dont do it on my bike. It it like the people who go in the shoulder on the highway when there is traffic (and I laugh when they get tickets). That sucks that he hit you with the broomstick, and funny that he got hauled off to jail... but it is like cutting in line, it just makes people mad.

Check your local laws.
Don't forget to check your state laws before doing it. It is illegal to split lanes in Pennsylvania.
I know it's legal in California but, don't know about any other states.

Yeah its legal in California, but maybe it shouldnt be.
I saw a guy catch a mirror on his grip one time when i was in my cage. Completely took the mirror off and he rubbed his tire on the door of another car. He then left the scene, with the bewildered cager pickin up their mirror.

I heard that the reason that it is legal in California is so the CHP can split lanes in an emergency.. don't know if that is right or not.
Also remember that while it might be legal, most people might know that it is.
It's legal to 'filter' in NZ, move to the front of traffic that has stopped, but a lot of people don't know. Even had a cop ask me what I was doing when I got in front of him at a set of lights.
I do it, but within certain limits. not fast, not close to other cars..

With only a limited number of days to live, work is a cruel joke..

I gotta admit that I use to split lanes a lot , however I find that I have no desire to that anymore . Me likez Miz Thang way too much to take a chance on some clown hurting her . Then I would really have to retaliate . Ya know what I mean ?

When I lived in LA, I saw some mexican get beat the fork up for scratching some guys truck with his bike. He tapped it at the back of the truck, the driver threw his door open and knocked the guy off his bike... then proceeded to beat him with his "The Club".
/glad I got the heck out of there.
I've been mad enough at sport bikers to want to do the same thing... but the whole getting arrested thing doesn't suit me.
