Don't get hung up on the word "ignition". It has nothing to do with how the bike is started. It has to do with how it gets its spark. It's probably the most common form of ignition for bikes, ATV's, and other small engine vehicles, but at one time it was new to everyone and was therefore advertised openly, kinda like when you see "Fuel Injected" or "EFI" on the back of a late 80's early 90's Ford.

I remember my joy at having CDI on my old 1971 Kawasaki Mach III(the H1)

Wow!!!! Fast, but watch out, you didn't want to corner at anything over a reasonable speed, or have to brake in a hurry. It was probably the fastest production bike on the road until the Mach IV came out in '72. I used to take on any and every bike regardless of engine size. Sold it because I thought the ability to do well into the mid 100's was too fast for me...

On mine, I buried that speedo needle into the odometer only once, just before I decided to sell it

So...you were doing somewhere between 50 and 90mph? Wow, you're a crazy man!

(I think you meant tripometer)

H1..(drool) I've got an s3, that ones pretty snappy and fast for a 400. Bought it in the late 80's for $100.00. I'm hoping to restore it sometime soon. I wish the 650 Yamaha I'm ridding was as snappy as that s3!

Oh by the way Zootech, if you have never ridden an H1, even 90mph was a scary thing on that unstable set of wheels...
