Lot of new info on this case today. I guess some internal investigation reports were released to several sources. The big ones being the suspect did NOT hop the turstiles. He did NOT run (everyone's justification for shooting him). And he WAS NOT wearing a big thick coat, but rather a denim jacket. And he was fully restrained when shot so there was no danger of him detonating anything, not to mention the fact that he had nothing to detonate. This is looking more and more like the cold-blooded execution of a man whose only crime was having brown skin and living in a poor neighborhood. I tried to give the police the benefit of the doubt, but they do nothing to help themselves by being incompetent and then trying a rather clumsy coverup. I know they have a tough job and I support them. But they will ultimately get more support from the average person if they admit their mistakes in the clear light of day rather than try to lie about their mistakies and cover them up. Who could blame the next guy who runs? The police kill innocents and lie about it.

Yeah I've been following it in the news.
Parts of the investigation have been leaked to the press, but its only selected parts so far, which usually means that there is something Political going off.
There was an ex-MI6 officer on the box last night commenting on it, especially the surveillance operation
The IPCC isnt confirming that the leak is from their investigation but if it is then the Surveillance team werent behaving in a way that they should for any criminal investigation, let alone an anti-terror operation where colleagues from Armed Response will have to make a shoot/dont shoot decision.

This bit gave the ex counter-terrorist a problem, there should have been another officer present to take over point on the surveillance while the other man responded to natures call.<he> was unable to video the man for subsequent confirmation because <he> was "relieving" himself at the time.

Agreed. And I don't want to come off as a cop hater. I'm not. I support the police. I need the police. I'm thankful for the police. They have a very difficult job. It is inevitable that they will make mistakes and it is inevitable due to the nature of the job that their mistakes will be more costly than the average Joe. But they underestimate our capacity for empathy when they lie to us. They will ultimately make their own jobs easier if they are honest with the people they are policing.

Life's short - shorter for some than others. The dude was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
To say the cops were justified or not in blasting the guy is just your opinion based on very little fact (were you there?). I know you all are smart enough not to believe everything you see on TV or read in the paper.

I guess now that this is into 6 pages, I will chime in. I am a former Sheriffs Department Tracker. My job was to persue subjects into wooded locations, contain and disarm them, and bring them out alive..if possible. I had a no BS rule...when in doubt..take em down.
That said...in this particular instance, there seems to be just too much evidence leaking out...that this was an error in judgement on the part of the officers involved. I have seen errors in judgement on the part of LEO's in the past...and in no case was it malicious...just the wrong decision..at the wrong time.
I think the jury is still out on this one. At 50, I tend not to rush into judgements until I have all the facts.
