Need Help!
I start my bike (2002 1600 Yamaha Midnight Star) and the starter stays engaged. I shut the key off and it still stays engaged turning the engine over, I turn the key back on and the bike starts again. OK, I turned my key off to release my seat and before I could get the hot cable off the battery it melted the lead on the hot side off the battery. I've replaced the relay a couple times but I still, periodicaly, have this problem. HELP PLEASE!!

Re: Need Help!
Marty, looks like starter problems on your bike are fairly common.

The issue described on that page isn't describing what's happening on your bike, BUT, thinking outside the box here, are you the only owner of the bike or did you buy used? Perhaps the previous owner employed an unorthodox strategy to fix that problem, and in doing so created what's wrong with your bike?
There's also this post I found on a RoadStar forum:

From reading this article, I'd assume your starter relay is 'stuck open' as he calls it.
