I took my stepdaughter to the "Gathering of the Nortons" today (21st annual). This is the annual show of the Delaware Valley Norton Riders club, which started small and has grown over time. It's one of those shows where the bikes in the parking lot are
almost as interesting as the bikes on display -- and almost everything is ridden there, not trailered.
My stepdaughter likes riding her Harley Sportster, but isn't really connected to the history and culture of our sport. So, for example, she had never seen a vintage Indian with a suicide shifter, never heard a vintage Triumph bobber with straight pipes, never seen a CBX (I told her, "count the exhaust headers..."

), never seen a Montessa. I got to show her a Vincent Black Shadow - my vote for the most beautiful bike of all time. It was interesting to watch her realize there's more to all this than what the Harley marketing people want us to think.
