Newbie, What bike should I get? Have some specifics.
thanks for your help guys, I think I still have a little more to learn about. I'm planning on first taking the msf course and getting my license (I was going to anyways, I'm just not going to rush) while I learn a little more about motorcycles (probably alot from this forum). Oh, and to answer your question, I live in Missouri in the suburbs and when I go out on a 30 minute drive I may only see one motorcycle the entire time. Occassinally I may see 5 or 6 but in general, I don't really see very many around here. That's why I don't know much about motorcycles. A guy in my neighborhood owns about 6 of them so I'm going to try to get to know him so he could teach me a couple things. Thanks again for your help though, I appreciate it alot.
Don't let the mechanical part scare you though. Before I bought my first bike, a '82 Honda Nighthawk 750, I had very little mechanical experience or ability. I got the bike for about $1000, and it ran great for 13,000 miles. When I first started working on it, I would go so slowly and still have troubles figuring out the oil changes lol. Within 6 months of owning the bike, I had completely taken the bike apart, and put it back together twice with absolutely no problems.
At first, it looks like quite a daunting task. But, once you get the tools out and start working away, you'll find it's not as hard as what it seemed just looking at it all. Buying an old bike will probably help you out in learning mechanics, so when you end up buying a newer more expensive bike, you won't have to take to the dealer for them to steal your money.

thanks bud, that makes me feel a little bit better knowing that some of you started out like me (without any knowledge of a motorcycle at all). I do appreciate it. I was actually even thinking about waiting a couple more months anyways just to learn about motorcycles and possibly get lower prices (I don't know if it will make much difference, but I hear that motorcycles go for alot less in the winter and fall because it's too cold to drive one. It makes sense, I just didn't know if prices actually dropped that much). But anyways, thanks for the information.
