Topboxes . . . yay or nay?

Given my avatar to the left, I'm obviously a fan of these things. Doesn't mean I think they're cool though ;P Although I kinda respect any rider I see with a topbox; kinda implies they're into function more than fashion. In fact, the only time I don't use one is if I'm multi-day touring (I prefer to strap a soft bag behind me or my pillion).

What about you?

currently riding my first bike with a top box......I have no idea how I got along without one for so long.

A big yea here Grey Thumper, put a Givi E33 on my 02 GS500 back in the spring of 04 and it hasn't been off since except to carry it into a motel a few times. Struggled with soft luggage in the rain for 2 decades before that, don't know why I waited so long to do it. I change the windshield twice a year, small Spitfire for spring, summer, and fall and the big Plexi 2 for winters here in NE Ohio.

Top boxes are indispensable. All four of our current bikes have full sets of hard luggage. But while side cases get put on or taken off, the top boxes are always on our bikes. My wife and I don't feel the weight, we're so used to them we hardly know they're there when riding. But if the top box wasn't there...... where would I put stuff?

I'd love to have a top box. I make do though.

It's all about function at a price I can afford.

I want one, but I'm not sure I would be able to get on or off the bike with one. I have a hard enough time swinging my leg over, and a top box might just be another thing to smash a foot or knee into.

My Tiger 800, loaded for touring, carries two Givi Trekker 46 litre boxes as sidecases (these are wide), a Triumph OEM top box, and a 45 litre dry bag on the passenger seat. I've been struggling with a bad left hip since spring, and when I took the Tiger to Canada in July, getting on and off the bike was.......... interesting.

My hip is slowly getting better. Thank goodness no one I know was around to take video of me getting on and off the bike!
