Favorite Amusement Parks...

Scan and I just returned from a much needed trip to our favorite amusement park, Cedar Point. While there are three different parks I would want to visit in Germany, England, and Japan, since that might not happen in this lifetime, I rely on my good 'ole favorite to get me by. Luckily we don't live too far, and this year both of our kids tried some new rides (and us too!).

My daughter, age 7 1/2, rode the Gemini, the Iron Dragon, and the Mine Ride for the first time this year. We tried to convince her to go on the Cork Screw, but she said maybe next year. My son, age 9 1/2, rode the Max Air and the Wicked Twister for the first time with me (what an absolute blast!!), and he rode his standard favorites including the Magnum, which was a first for him last year. On the morning of our second day, we hustled Scan off to the Top Thrill Dragster, and he rode in the front. We were there to see the launch - man that thing is fast!!

We have always had the plan of turning our two kids into coaster enthusiasts, so that we'll have lifelong riding partners. While we thought it would be a challenge getting our daughter interested, she really surprised us this year. It was two hours before closing time last night when she, on her own accord, decided to try the Gemini. And she rode it twice with her eyes open the entire time. We're so proud of her - she's quite brave.

I gotta second Cedar Point myself. Some buddies and I went last year and rode the Top Thrill Dragster and the Millenium Force, the latter twice in a row (don't ask me how...t'was a glitch

). King's Island is getting a bit long in the tooth at this point, so I don't even consider it a contender.

For our first summer living in Ohio, we had bought season passes for King's Island since it is so close. But after the second visit, I was bored to tears. And the advertising there is obscene. You can't walk more than 10 feet without a new Paramount advertisement blaring over the loud speakers. Or some obnoxious movie theme music playing so loud that you can't even hold a conversation. The climate is just different. So last year and this year we figured it's just better to pay the extra to go once to Cedar Point.

I still haven't done the Millennium Force, but it's on my list for next year.

i cant stand amusment parks really, spend a fortune to travel there then hotel etc. then the cost to just get in is crazy. then forget about eating or drinking there without dropping a fortune again. forget about the masses of crowds and screaming little kids then after all all that mone, you stand in 2 hour long lines just so you can go on some ride that lasts maybe 1-2 minutes.

for as much as a trip to a decent park would cost me id rather buy a new motorcycle and ride it to get my thrills with no lines and all the cheap food i can handle along the way. but thats just me.

I must confess I like the corkscrew at alton towers (UK)

It's been there for years, and you can really see the other people in the queue starting to get very nervous, when you chat loudly regarding it's age, the visible rust (looks like just surface rust to me), and the (visible) rusty bolts on the ground beneath it.

It's a great way to amuse yourselves whilst queing for it

Ya, but what's your favorite amusement park? That's what the question was. But, true to your style, you just want to knock anything that certain people, like me, enjoy talking about. So thanks for putting a negative spin on my thread. So typical.

Alton Towes is one of my choices of parks to visit if I ever get near Europe. It seems like a great park in general. The Corkscrew at Cedar Point is pretty mild compared to the rest of the coasters that have come since, but when I rode it for the first time at the age of 11, it seemed very intense to me. Every couple of years though, the industry puts out something more and more terrifying. Aside of going over the limit on G-forces, it's hard to tell how they will keep adding to the thrill factor.

Being from the canadian praries we don't have may amusement parks round here but...

we took a trip to LA this past march and went to Sea World, Disneyland, legoland, Knotts Berry Farm, and Universal Studios.

Knotts Berry Farm was my favorite because it had a ton of cool rides Like the Ghost Rider(enormous wooden coaster), and the silver bullet, boomerand, montezooma's revenge.

Before then, I had never been on a coaster and the first one i went on was the inverted silver bullet, i was crapping my pants waiting in line but when I got off I couldn't wait to go on more. It's addicting.

I really likes Universal Studios because it had all the techie rides like back to the future and Jurrassic Park ride, Those were all cool ride becasue they were more than just a ride.

so i cant have an opinion? if no park is my favorite then thats what i will say. i dont care if you go to parks and enjoy them, all the power to you.

Of course you can state your opinion - you always do. But I just want to know what your point is. You tend to hijack threads with your poo-poo attitude. I'm beginning to think that you just make statements to be argumentative in general. I'm pretty sure that if I had titled this thread "Anyone hate amusement parks?", you would chime in with how wonderful they are, just to contradict what I say. So whatever...
