The actual impact with the bike might not kill the cager. But swerving to avoid or running over the biker and losing control, that sort of thing might end up in a wreck for the car driver.

I am curious as to why some think it's ok to ride a little stoned? Is being stoned not just as dangerous as riding with a drink in your system? I don't indulge in "the other substance" either, so I will have to be enlightened.
Does it not affect your reactions and your judgement as well?

There's degrees of everything. I think you can be too stoned to ride for sure. I never smoke if I know I'm riding in the next 4 hours or so. That said, if I had taken a couple of tokes and HAD to ride for some emergency or other, I don't think it would bother me all that much. Having done both in my foolish youth, I'd have to say that I'd much rather ride next to someone who's been smoking rather than someone who'd been drinking. rx and alcohol both affect motor skills. My unscientific anectdotal evidence suggests that alcohol has a more deleterious effect than pot. Your mileage may vary.

Luckily, I've never really developed a taste for alcohol (including beer). Not that I havn't tried them before.

Ever wonder why many people try beer, whiskey, champagne, etc. and don't initially like the taste but will keep drinking until they acquire the taste?

In my case, I preferred the taste of sugary drinks like pop. Unfortunately, I'm now paying the price, as I'm a Type 2 diabetic.

Ditto...

I have had a few opportunities to drink and ride, but have passed them up. It's just not worth it. In my younger days, I had a couple of times when I drove my car drunk. One time was so bad, I woke up in the morning, and I wasn't even sure if I'd find my car outside because I couldn't even remember driving home. That scared me like nothing before. I ran outside to see if there were any marks or dents on my car, fearing I had perhaps hit someone/something. It's an awful feeling.

Just this past 4th of July I had taken my bike up to Michigan for a friend's party, and after a couple of drinks had been consumed by many, including myself, my friend's buddies, whom had rode up on five bikes, all went for a ride. I was the only one who stayed behind. It doesn't bother me at all to skip a ride when I 've been drinking. When I do drink, I either sit tight where I am, or I'll walk home. Even that can be a bit dangerous for me. I like me Guiness!!

Cheers,
Loonette

I don't really drink. A glass of wine at thanksgiving, that's it.
