air box removal for k&n air filter pods help

I am installing a 4 k&n air filter pods into my fzr600. i have removed the air box and have installed the pods easy. my problem starts here there are 2 hoses that were going into the air box when i removed it. one is a crank case brether and the ather i dont know what it is.i dont no what to do whith them. so when i start the bike and rev it it dasnt whant to rev over 7k and is making very loud noeses from the carbs.what should i do?

p.s. would jeting help? :frusty:

but if i poot the air box back on the bike runs fine. could it be sumthing with suction?

Yes. First you want to put a filter on the crankcase breather so stuff doesn't get in there. Then you want to find where the other hose went (Probably on your carbs or manifolds somewhere) and block that off.

dont block it off if it is the float bowls vent tube.

If the bike's not revving, a rejetting is probably in order... a line from the manifold wouldn't have reason to go to the airbox.

Pods are a big waste of money IMHO. Yes, you will need to re-jet. No, it will not run as cleanly and smoothly as it did with the airbox. You will get a couple of HP on top(but only a couple) and good luck getting the flatspot in the midrange out. You will lose power and response in the lower RPM ranges.

Removing the stock airbox for a streetbike is counter-productive. On a racebike that runs WFO all the time, pods can make some sense. But on a roadbike, they hurt rideability.

If you haven't destroyed the airbox taking it out(many people can't wiggle it out easily so just cut it up), I would put it back to stock and enjoy some Happy Motoring.

If your set on the pods, deal with your ventlines as mentioned above and take it to a dyno tuner to be jetted as best it can be. It still won't run as well as it did before, but it will be the best you can get with the pods.

ahaa your fearfull hero has just installed a stage 3 jet kit and the bike runs good. well about as good as BuzZz said AND THATS BAD NEWS FOR ME. but im lerning a ton about carbs. the ather day i found a forum just about the fzr. there i found a way to bench sync the carbs then i can supposidly sync them with a vacuum gage.do you think that might help.

It sure ain't gonna hurt to sync the rack. And it will probably help.

It is possible to jet most of the holes out of some bikes after installing pods. It takes alot of patience, practice, determination and ussually, alot of dyno time. Some bikes never get rid of them. Even within the same model. The fewer other performance mods the engine has, the better your chances of getting it jetted right. And small, increamental changes in settings and sizes and KEEP NOTES on what you have done and how it affected the bike.

If the carbs need to be synched, then that will certainly help.

It's important that you adjust the valves before you synch the carbs, however. If your valves are off, the carbs won't synch up properly.
