Bad spills?
Bad spills?
Not a pleasant topic, but hope it discourages those with no regard for their personal safety as well as the safety of others.
In my worst spill I broke my hip, had compound femur fracture ans shatterred my patella. All my spills were my own fault.

"There's no substitution for safety!"
Worst spills were at 80mph and 95 mph. Bike was substantially damaged in each. Damage to body was just a scraped elbow (where the leathers wore through), bruises, and overall aching bones the next day.
No major obstacles were hit, hence, no major injuries. Moral of story, if you're going to go fast, do it on the track with the big boys.

Worst I had was on a bicycle- put me in the hospital with a broken ankle. I ride around with a titanium plate these days. I pray every time I ride that I don't get hurt. Seems to work so far. However, due to the laws of physics and Murphy's I'd say- Expect the unexpected!

How about a less than 5km per hour job. Riding observed trials, tried to take a step, missed the fork compression, went straight up and then straight down. My femur smashed onto the tibial platue and split my leg like a log. That was four months in a wheel chair and two months on sticks. Got back on and rode another two years before going full time road riding. Do not want to do that again!
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Worst spill
Talk to a local emt, paramedic or firefighter. We've got all kinds of gruesome stories. I just responded to 2 separate motorcycle wrecks during my last 24 hour shift. I've seen deaths, comas, paralysis, shattered bones, broken bones, abrasions (road rash), lacerations, avulsions (chunks of body missing), amputations (limbs missing).... Trust me when I say it's not pretty.
The thing I've learned from all the "accidents" I've seen.....
1) Don't ride under the influence (alcohol or any other drug).
2) Always wear your safety gear, especially a helmet.
3) Know your limits. If you don't know your limits, don't get on a bike.
4) Always stay alert.
5) Be nice to the paramedic or you'll get REALLY big needles.
Stay safe out there folks!

I'll soon be a full-fledged radiographer (I hope). I've seen all manner of shattered, severed and broken bones and other various injury types. Believe me and scoutmedic-- it isn't pretty or funny at all. Many people are never the same again even if they survive.
If you think it can't or won't happen to you be prepared for a big shock some day. I sincerely hope it never arrives for anybody. The thing I've learned from all the "accidents" I've seen.....

Broke my neck (3 vertebrea) and my collarbone in one "good one". That was my last one- 22 years ago.
Too much; speed/alcohol/youth based perceived immortality. Plus I was trying to out run the cops......hey, you're only young once.
