Newbie
Hi all, I'm Rob, and 41. Finally thought it was time to get my bike licence, after many years on a dirt bike. Never ridden on the road before, and just bought a 2004 Suzuki GS500 which is looking good, right price, and seems in good condition, but needs a little work as it idles really high
I got my riding gear organised, helmet, gloves, riding jacket & jeans/pants. Not going leathers, on the bad side of 110kg, and 6'3" i don't think it'll be a good look.
I live NSW Central Coast, Australia and will be taking it extremely easy, until i feel comfortable on the bike, and riding on the roads, be heading out into the quiet areas of the coast to learn the ropes.

Re: Newbie
Welcome Bumpy
I too am a dirt to asphalt convert. Dirt riding was part of my youth. I traded all the dirt necessities (Grabbing a ramp and loading my dirt bike onto a trailer or in the back of a truck, carrying a gear bag of dusty boots etc, driving to the dunes, unloading, gearing up tearing up some sand, then loading up again to come home dirty and tired then finding a car wash hoping to make my bike look new again lol) for asphalt luxury (looking forward to my commute to and from work during the warm months of the year and planning road-trip adventures with my man on the weekends.)
Looks like you've got your gear all ready to go, I only wear leathers when I plan on lots of freeway riding or if it's chilly out. Take some time and do some slow paced parking lot practice (u turns, quick stops, obstacle avoidance, figure 8's and S turns) and watch some youtube videos on street techniques and with some time in the saddle you'll be a pro. Looking forward to reading future posts about your progress.

Re: Newbie
Joined this group on 10/22/2017, I have been riding for 28 years(Royal Enfield, Vulcan 750 and now Suzuki GZ 250). Currently live in Cortlandt Manor , NY ( 50 miles north of NYC). Not planning to ride extensively, but planning to train new riders and be a coach for riders who want to jump into this and hesitating. As a passion, I have visited about 9 motorcycle factories across the globe.
