stalling while in "ON" position

#1 Unread post by rapidblue »

I was out riding my bike today and as I was cruising along, the engine just cut out on me, I checked to make sure I had gas, lots, so I started it again. 5 mins later same deal. Switched the petcock to reserve and it ran fine all the way back home. Switched it back to "on' and the same thing happened.

Any ideas as to whyit runs like that when "on" but not on reserve?

Can I bypass this and run in "reserve" always?

Running out of gas is not really and issued since I always check it before I ride.

Thanks
Nolan

Strip and clean your petcock, sounds like the 'on' position has some blockage.

Is it a vaccum operated system or straight open gravity type?
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

I believe its straight open gravity, I have clear hoses and when I turn it "on" the gas flows down right away. even when the bikes off

When it does stall the lines look right full of fuel.

can i just leave it in "reserve"?

Of course you can leave it in reserve. You'll only do that until you run out of fuel someplace, then you'll fix it.
