MAXIM OWNERS: need help - headlight relay on '82 xj550

#1 Unread post by maximnewb »

First off, I'm having trouble locating the headlight relay. Wiring diagrams aren't proving to be much help since they show you how things are CONNECTED, but not WHERE they are on the bike.

Can anybody point me in the right direction here?

I also need tips on bypassing this system (since my headlight isn't functioning and this is a likely culprit...so I hear - yes, the bulb does work) although I might be able to figure out this part on my own once I find it.

I'd also really appreciate it if anybody has some good maxim websites for repair tips and help such as this.

Thanks.

P.S. If you're looking for reapair info on maxims I have quite a few resources that might come in handy (including CD manual)...let me know

I would put odds on the relay being near the fusebox or under the tank...

I also think it's a bad idea to bypass the relay. If the relay is shot, get a new one.

I'm just bypassing temporarily....mostly to see if in fact the relay is shot. If it is I'll have to start the hunt for a new one.

Any other maxim owners have an idea what the relay should look like?

Tricky thing to find when you've never seen one before!

I know I've seen turn signal relays somewhere during my search.

Have you tried Ebay? A lot of xj550 stuff is on there from time to time.

Good luck!
