I tedn too see this Look at you but dont see you look when hitch hiking.... I hate that.sv-wolf wrote:There's also this special trick that cagers do, I've noticed. They look straight at you but don't see you. They come with brains fitted with filters that don't see anything with less than four wheels. It would make a good academic study for someone - or a premature funeral.
Of course, maybe they do see us and pull out anyway. I've seen that happen, too.

Not to condone causing a rear-ender, but in BC, we have what's called, "Under-insured Motorist" coverage. It's just for that time when the other guy thinks insurance is unnecessary. I've used it once when I was in a broadside with an un-insured car. Luckily I was in my car at the time....

I need some clarification here, please. Not to flame or be rude, but some folks here actually want to be rear-ended by a car while on their bike? Just to prove a point to the car driver??? Um, pardon me if I "just don't get it". I like my bones and bike too much to intentionally put them in harm's way just get a message across to some moron. Better to pull ahead or pull aside and keep all the valuables intact. I like my minerals as they are... undamaged.
Besides, there's better ways to get a cage to back off your tail. Simply carry an old spark plug or two in a pocket you have easy access to, those things bounce at high speed.
Hey, it was on the road, I must have kicked it up when I ran over it.

i was talking about while in a car. no way on my bike. but in a car id survive being rear ended just fine and cause alot more damage to the car behind me.V4underme wrote:I need some clarification here, please. In my case I had no where to go, no shoulder, and speeding up just made the situation more dangerous. The idea was to slow down and get her to pass me. Instead she just kept slowing down until we were both at a dead stop, with her still too close to my rear wheel.V4underme wrote:I need some clarification here, please. That is AWEsome! That's basically the way I deal with really extreme tailgaiters. There was a story I read once about a guy who had something similar happen, although he just stopped and waited in the middle of the road with an idiot woman and her husband just staring straight ahead, stopped behind him on an insterstate. He was in a car, so no huge worries - he just peeled out and left em in the dust.bennettoid wrote:The other morning on the way to work a woman pulled up to within a foot of my rear tire and stayed there. I was genuinely scared. I slowed down very slowly and she hit her brakes within inches of hitting me. I continued to slow and down shift. She still wasn't getting it. I came to a complete stop and put down my kickstand in the middle of the road. I actually got off my bike and turned toward her before she realized what was happening and she went from a dead stop to whipping out around me and taking off like a rabbit with total fear in her eyes. I didn't know what I was gonna do if I actually made it to her window, but I guarantee you I wasn't going to buy her lunch.
How can anyone be so oblivious?

Congratulations BT. Sometimes, you just have to make you point in the only way these dumb-dumbs will understand.bennettoid wrote:The other morning on the way to work a woman pulled up to within a foot of my rear tire and stayed there. Tell me about this! I get it all the time on the motorway when I have the audacity to ride in the outside lane to make a series of overtakes. Some loon sees a bike doing maybe 95mph - clearly not fast enough for him - and comes right up behind - RIGHT behind. When I've done the overtakes with the loon trailing me like my shadow, I go back into the middle lane. So what happens? The loon shoots past at about 110mph as though he were going to a fire. Then, a hundred yards up the road, what does he do? He slows back down to 90 - which is what he was doing before he saw me.
