For me I used Iridium spark plugs in my Guzzi, I don't have to, but the advantage I've found is better starting in weather extremes (very cold or very hot) vs regular plugs. I find it makes a difference for my Canadian weather that is quite extreme up here, but if you have more "moderate" weather like in England or the middle band states (TN) then you may not notice any difference at all.

From regular to normal plugs the difference was ~$5 per plug and I needed 2 so no biggie for me. If it was a V8... well..

GM says their Iridium last twice as long as their regular plugs. I put them in my 95 S-10 and they were standard eq after 99.

Placing a back protector over the jacket might impede these ventilation features, causing the rider to overheat, especially during warmer weather conditions.
