Brand loyalty preventing ability to ride...

A guy I know who spent $23k on a new Harley last spring now parks it under the front part of a pickup camper in his driveway. Hasn't put a thousand miles on it yet, but when he bought it he was gonna ride it to Sturgis and every place he went. So it lives outside, with no bike cover, at the beach [salt air, if you don't have a good garage down here, you can watch rust form on metal] and seldom rides it.
This is one step beyond the guy who uses the "if it isn't a Harley, I won't ride at all." It's the "I have so little self respect, I will buy what some people would love to have and treat it like a piece of unloved junk."

I wish I would've looked for that feature before I had to spend a few hours getting the rust off the spokes on my Harley:):)

As a Harley owner I don't understand how a person would forgo riding for the sake of a brand name.

I was out with a bunch of Harley riders when I mentioned how nice the new Suzuki Boulevards looked. "They design everything to look like a Harley!"

I just looked at him a little perplexed.

It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you ride!!!

It's just another day in the life of a wannabe , there is a whole lot of them out there .
This morning while out for my morning coffee a local PD came out and asked me ; "Is that your Deuce?" I laughed and told him that actually it was a Suzuki Intruder and by far the most comfortable bike I had ever owned , wished him a good day and watched him leave . With his jaw agape........

I would suggest that maybe this guy doesn't want to ride, he wants people to know HE has a Harley. I further postulate that if he did have his Harley, he would only ride from home to the nearest place where as many other people could see him own(not ride) his bike as possible.

But I've been wrong before.......

There are extremes in motorcycling. Witness the exclusive Gold Wing, Harley, and Sportbike clubs. Some of these clubs won't let other brands/types of bikes ride with them.

Personally, I think brand/type loyalty really limits your motorcycling experience and perspective. I'm thinking about joining a club with my son, but it is a club for all ages of riders and all brands and types of motorcycles. Their rides range from a scooter to a Boss Hog and everything inbetween. Should make for some interesting conversations.
