About the helmet laws- Check here-
http://www.abate.com/pages/ohmclaws.html
and then if you need particulars look around their site, or do a "google search" for helmet laws in your state.
As for my helmet wearing (or not) status- got my new shield for my Rodia Modular so I'll be wearing it again.
I prefer the freedom of no helmet but theres just NO protection there from even small bugs, road debris, ect.
I was behind a semi the other day (freeway) and suddenly I was in a rain of small rocks- coming from an untarped tri axel dumptruck in front of the truck I was following. I tucked down and drafted the semi NASCAR style until we were past the dump truck. With no helmet a rock the size of a golfball would have taken me out. One hit the sole of my boot that was half that size and it really hurt. I can imagine one on the jaw or right between the eyes.......
but I digress, I'm wearin' the fullface fulltime!

There is some good info on helmets on this site, also the impact distribution, which is very interesting and scary.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I was on the highway once and felt a shockwave throughout my helmet accompanied by a sound like a rock had hit my face shield. Looking dead ahead, I could see it was a huge bug that splattered right on the shield in between my eyes; and the guts were spread all over the shield.
I am often tempted to go with a half-helmet, but I think of that time, and opt for a full face.

Wherever you may roam
May you own your road.

Full face.
A june bug between the eyes sucks more than being a little warm in my opinion.
I have a Vega. I don't like it anymore though, the face sheild always feels like its gonna go flying off when I turn my head, so it looks like I might be springing for a more reputable brand.

I full face always! Not because I doubt my abilities as a rider but because I question yours?
Here are a few other reasons for such, but the one above in the mostest.
-Being in the military and riding my bike to and from work I am looked on and respected by about a quarter of the population with respect and awe (the other 3 quarters hate us for the war or what have you.... because we apparently have nothing better to do then go out and kill babies, but that is another topic/rant for another time) but it is my responsibility to set the example to the kids out there that we are made out to be hero’s for. Kinda the same reason I endorse bicycle helmets even though I think they are the dumbest looking things ever, but they save lives, and it’s law where I live so I support it for the kids’ sake.
-Full-face, because anything else would be uncivilized.
So I really dont look at it as an option for me or a freedom, I just look at it as a civic obligation.

I wish the vet in my work van today was more like you.....he had his 30+ year old arm around a 17 year old girl, and tried to pull the van over to fight a guy who was tailing us. Yikes.
I wear a full face. You can get one for the same price as any other, and it's safer and comfy. Good enough for me.
