Weird Riding Group

Well, yesterday I went on a 150 mile jaunt with a former co-worker and his boss. It was really the first time I rode with other people, and it was a lot of fun. We were just cruising at 45-60 on back and secondary roads, next to rivers and things like that.

I rode my 84 Honda Nighthawk. It was good and reliable as usual. Not the most exciting bike, but its fits my needs ok.

My friend was riding his 82 Honda CM250. I was a bit skeptical of this bike keeping up (especially riding 2 up!) even on back roads, but it did fine. He even cruised on the highway at 60 fairly comfortably. Very surprising for such a tiny bike. I sat on it and I think it weighed just over 15 pounds...

Then my friends boss was riding his 1968 Moto Guzzi Ambassador 750. What a cool, old, heavy, clunky bike. I loved it! He kept stalling at all the lights because it didnt like to idle. It kinda smelled live old oil if you just stood next to it, even if it wasnt running..

Anyway, we werent the fastest or the coolest group of riders, but we had a great time. It definetly made me want to ride in a group more often! I think next time we'll be adding my gf on either her 1980 Suzuki gs550e or a 74 Yamaha Rd200

Fantastic! I need to find a group around here that drives old slow bikes too... that way I can keep up! lol.

The only people I have found to ride with so far are R6 owners... (some of my friends from highschool). They definitately have to slow down for me, especially when I am on my 250. Maybe I'll just remove 3 of their spark plugs to even it out. My KZ650 will book it, but I need a new rear tire, and a little more experience to keep up with them, still.

That sounds like an great ride. I haven't found anybody to ride with yet, none of my frineds have bikes. Yesterday I saw a group on the highway that looked like a dual sport, a cruser, and a sportbike, I was wishing they weren't going the other way so I could join in. I have a nice 82 CM250 as well and it tops out at about 65 but rolls down the two lane roads just fine.

I've been riding for two seasons now and I still havn't ridden in an official group. I've come up behind some bikes, and followed them until we were heading different directions. What I'm wondering is if I'm just out cruising around is it kosher to just find a group that's riding and hop in the back and go with them, or is that a no no?

If they're riding your speed, i dont think it would be a big deal at all. I've done that for short distances before.

I was going to say, you're welcome to come ride with us, except you're about as far away as you can be and still be in the same state as me (407 miles)!

When I come up to other groups / riders, I usually hold back and don't join their formation. I never feel confortable just joining in, as I don't know if they'll want to have a newbie with a 425 riding with them. They may be somewhat exclusive.

That is the proper etiquette. If y'all stop at the same place/time you can ask if they want some company, but don't join uninvited.....

That's the type of group I'd like to ride with too.

I've never officially rode, riden? in a group except this one time when I inadvertantly found myself at the front of a group of about 10-15 Harley's.

I've been wanting to do this for a while, so I'm just going to go ahead and do it:

I'll be hosting a ride nice slow-medium passed ride in the Chester County, PA, Lancster County PA, Northern Delaware are on sept 18th.. I'll post a link to a page with more info here soon. It will probably be 100-150 miles or so.
We will just cruise 45-60 or so on back/intermediate roads. There will be covered bridges, Amish country, Historic Revolutionary War Battleground areas and more. There is enough to see here, and if people are interested, I'll do this monthly.

We'd be meeting in West Chester PA, 19380, then going from there.
I'll post in the "rides forum" too when I get more details.
