Does anyone ever see women riding with passengers? I got to thinking about it and I don't think I have. I've ridden with passengers a lot of times. It's usually my kids, my mom rode pillion once. I've only known one man willing to ride pillion. I think he only did it because it was his bike and I couldn't reach the ground on both sides at the same time. Stopping was hard so he rode and put his feet down when I had to stop. I never had to put my feet down. It was very cool.
I guess that was a long way to say, I ride with 2. :D

I ride solo 99% of the time. My wife doesn't begrudge the bike, but she clutches to my back like a limpet. We don't have the same mindset.

Me: it's the journey.
She: it's the destinationS (i.e., shopping stops)

Put it this way, I'm the pillion, If he deprives me of a ride......I deprive him of 2 rides and I sulk till he takes me out on bike.....Hence he's only ever done that once! Dave rides how he wants to ride..the faster the better, he occasionaly feels behind to make sure I'm still there.........and I LOVE IT! :P
I'm not riding fast...........Just flying low!

gains and losses

#27 Unread post by xsrider »

I have done a huge amount of two up riding, but I must say I've been lucky to have partners that enjoy a good ride and don't scream at all. One partner even urged me to go faster, winding both my XS1100 and GSX1100s past the 240km mark.

Most of my two-up riding has been on 1100cc bikes, and the power, seat position and weight of big bikes makes two-up riding much less of a task.
What you lose in handling, you gain in company (but you lose nothing in speed!).

I'd love to do some two-up.

Actually, what I think that really means, is that I'd like a girlfriend. ;P

But really, I'm not opposed to the idea of giving someone a ride- But if it's not a lady of my own, I wouldn't go about making a big habbit out of it. The experience alone isn't something I want to go about throwing at just anyone, and the whole 'really close personal/physical contact' thing isn't either.

Now, I'm not too macho to give another guy a lift or anything, but I think unless I knew the person well, I'd really just rather pass on the matter.

My wife and I go 2-up a good bit, but just short rides of a couple miles or so to the gym or the video store or to grab a cup of coffee. She just got her own bike and it's great. I don't mind 2-up but I have a small bike and it's a bit of a strain on the motor. Nowadays I'm busy watching her get used to her bike - I admit that I prefer riding alone, but I'm sure we'll do a lot more 2-up riding when I get a bigger bike. Never had anyone on there but my wife and I'd be fine keeping it like that. If you have your own license and helmet and have taken the safety course yourself like she has then I can rest assured that you know the risks when you get on a bike. I'd be nervous with a 'civilian' on the back.

Riding solo 99% of the times...it's the only way to really have fun sweeping around twisty turns....and enjoying pure acceleration!

Keep the rubber side down
