#1 Unread post by Boycey »

I'm reletively new to biking (experience wise; i've been interested in bikes since i was 6) and am hopefully going to be getting a 125 soon. I was just wondering if there were any reccommendations from anyone who has bought a 125 before (i'm considering an Aprilia RS125.

Any imput greatly appreciated,

Simple answer, if you havent ridden before, dont get one!

They are way too expensive for what they are, and although just a 125 - can be too much bike for the first-timer. Capable of 120mph, they are really quite the little screamer!

Still, it is a lot better than an R6 or something I suppose...
Don't give up.

Not now, not soon, not after being continually knocked down.

If you never give up, you can never truly fail.

What kind of riding do you want to do? Learning, commuting, racing? Where are you located? Canada, US, UK, Europe? You have your 4t CB/CG125s that are great to learn on and cruise at 80kph/50mph, and then you have your slew of 2t 125s that have much more power. You'll need to narrow it down a little.

33 bhp 14 ft-lb on a bike that weighs ~280lbs

Comprable to the Ninja250

28 bhp 14 ft-lb at ~320 lbs

The stroker also has a better suspension setup - it's considered a race rep while the Ninja is more of a beginner bike.

They redline at about 12,500. Not bad for a 2-stroke single

They can also run at 110mph, yeh, but at about redline. This will tear up the motor in short order. I wouldn't sustain anything over 80mph on one unless you want to be changing rings and cylinders every stinking month.

That's why i'm more leaning towards the rs250 ... ohhhh yeah.

250cc 2-stroke V-twin - 60hp/32ft-lb (Can be modded to well over 70hp) and weighs just under 300lbs dry. Can you say tasty? Have yet to find a decent used one that hasen't been flogged like hell. (Can't understand why  )

Compare that to the Ninja 500 - 388 lbs 54hp, 30.9ft-lb

That Aprillia is going to bite you, there are 250, 400, even 500 bikes that are a easier to handle than that little devil. Just like life a bike purchase is about risk. If you can manage the risk, fine, all well and good. Be honest with yourself and if you determine to treat the Aprillia with respect and learn to grow with it, no problem. If not, you are asking to be bitten. Are you going to buy a full set of leathers to go with that bike?
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
