Rattling noise Yamaha Classic 1100 V-Twin

I have a rattling noise when I accelerate starting at approx. 45 mph to 65 mph. It sounds like ball bearings in a can. Cruising at 65 mph it has a continuous rattling sound. Dealer said possibly in manifold heat exchanger. Says cannot be fixed. Says it's normal. I don't believe it. Some people riding this bike cannot hear it at all, others say it is so loud they couldn't stand it. I cannot stand it. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

It is not engine detonation. I was told it would be in the exhaust heat exchange. Rattling starts at 45 mpg while accelerating, but does not rattle on descending speed. While cruising at 55 and 65 mph, rattle is constant. Bike mechanics I have spoken with say it seems to be in exhaust, somehow.

My friend has that bike. If you have the stock exhaust it has a terribly involved baffling system. If any of the baffles have come loose due to rust or whatever... they can make the said awful rattling noise. You should be able to open up the exhaust and get to the baffles. Maybe a little well place muffler packing may help.

Or drill a small hole, run a wire loop through it and use it to "tie" the baffle to the pipes. The seal up the hole with a bead of JB-weld. That should hold the baffle tightly to the pipe and keep it from rattling.
