Routes in Eastern Virginia

I am enjoying my new bike. I live in Southeastern Virginia. Can anyone suggest some nice rides here? Have done the Va. Beach to Knott's Island several times which is very nice. Any others?

If I lived there I'd certainly do a day trip to either Ocean City, Maryland or go ride The Dragon in Tennessee (or any of the other cool roads in Tennessee!).

If you live in the Tidewater area route 17 south into NC is a great ride, or the colonial pkwy in Williamsburg is a nice ride as well. Lots of country roads down route 58 west through suffolk and into southampton county. More great rides than I can list really.

It was amazing in my jeep with the top down so I'd say take route 17 as far north as you can go with it. Nothing like the rolling hills of virginia in the fall.

I've never ridden it on a bike, but I used to love to drive Rt-5 between Richmond and Williamsburg. It's not a really long trip, or it wasn't for me coming out of Richmond. A bit longer for you I imagine. Stop at Indian Fields Tavern for lunch. (Mildly upscale)

Twisting, turning 2 lane running along the James River past several old plantation homes that date back to the 1600, 1700's.

I should have added that a couple of the plantations are open to the public. Among them are the homes of Presidents Harrison, and Tyler. There are a couple of bed and breackfast places along the way also.

Up at the west end of R-5 in the Varina area you'll find parts of the Richmond National Battlefield Park which is another full day's trip (at least) around Richmond touring the Civil War battlefields. Most of that is on two lane country roads that should be great for bike riding.
