Headphones
What's the consensus on headphones? Is it legal to wear headphones while on a bike? Dangerous?

Whether or not it's legal will vary by state. I've done it in the past. Even went so far as to install phones inside the helmet. The volume level required to overcome road and wind noise is pretty high. If you crank the sound up so you can hear it well, you probably won't be hearing anything else. My personal take is that it's probably not as safe as riding without headphones.

Personally I don't think it is a very good idea and really unwise .

90% sure it's illegal here. I've done it a couple times but really there is no point. Crank the volume up loud enough to overcome the wind and the music sounds like crap. Maybe with better headphones it would work (I have those $12 sony earbuds). Then again it's probably not the best idea in traffic.
I just sing my favorite songs really loud when I want music. Blended with the engine and wind and helmet muffling it sounds half decent.

According to AMA, helmet speakers are legal in FL.
Helemt speakers are different from headphones, so I would check FL DMV

I've never ridden with headphones on. I've done it on my bicycle, and couldn't hear cars coming up behind me. That pretty much settled it that I wasn't going to try that on a motorcycle -- you need all your wits about you. I think an alternative would be bikes that come with stereo kits (eg. Goldwing).
