Motorcycle sign language

#1 Unread post by Kaige »

We all know the friendly "hello" wave..but is there a universal motorcycle sign language for other things?

For instance I was reading another message board and someone was discussing how they passed this guy and he patted the top of his helmet and not far down the road was a cop.

Is this a rather familiar sign for "slow down..there's a cop up there". Are there others?

Thanks!

yeah, that is one I've heard about, but never really seen anyone doing..

Others, i've heard, include

Thumbs down = speed camera
boot stuck out, or hand low with palm facing ground = dodgy road surface
and
middle finger extended = standard greeting for scooter riders :P ( I jest of course )

When I run into other riders, they've tended to hold out thier hand and rub thier index & middle fingers against thier thumb, all towards the pavement (like the universal sign for 'lots of cash; but upside down) to indicate something slippery on the road; like gravel.

Thumbs down is generally "something bad ahead" whether it's a buttload of gravel across the road or a cop, not just for speed cameras. Pretty much means slow down and look out.
